Default WIW - 406 Galaxie

A friend of mine just found this car..... Its a '62 Galaxie 406/385(4 bbl) 4 speed original paint 88,000 original miles no rust black plate car been sitting in a barn since 1977..... totally unmolested 1 owner car. The car is straight as an arrow including all the trim and bumpers. He offered the car to me but thinks its worth 15k as-is.... I'm thinking 10k.... The car has some slight surface rust but not horrible.... needs a little interior work and whatever it would take to get it back on the road..... sooooo WIW?

To be honest, I think you're spot on with 10k. Its just a 4 barrel and not a tri power G code car which would bring it around the 15k zone. Just my opinion.

I pretty much agree with the numbers above, but more info would be helpful. Good colors? Also whether or not its a 500XL would be useful to know. Finally, verify that the engine block and heads are still correct. Most of these 406 cars seem to have acquired 390's during their life. I just looked at a '63 Monterey S55 406 convertible and though it had the original block, it lost its heads as cores to some generic C8 rebuilds. My '63 406 had a '65 Merc 390 in it when I got it.

Its not an XL.... its a base Galaxie hardtop. Lousy colors IMO.... cream with a matching interior. the car looks totally untouched under the hood... as per original owner... the engine is the original and has never been out of the car or worked on.... but does have chrome 427 valve covers..

BTW - he sold it to someone else for the 15k...

By the sounds of it.... I probably did the right thing by passing at his 15k price tag as I'm not a Ford guy and would probably have resold it after dumping some money in it to get it going and touch up the interior.... If it was a GM product... it would be sitting in my garage right now.

Listed for $15,500 on CL:

Sure is an honest looking old ride. Original air cleaner is nice, really a b!t@h to find.

Thats the car. I thought he sold it because I couldn't find the ad that he had posted on the SF craigslist that had the as found pictures posted. I should give him a call.....

If anybody is intrested in the car..... the owners name is Larry and he is a real straight up honest guy.... or let me know.... he's only about 5 minutes from my house.
