Default Fake trim tags

Perhaps this belongs in the lounge. If the mods want to move it, fine.

It has been six years since I wrote the first draft of the trim tag legislation for Oklahoma. It became law Nov. 2007.

I have offered to help anyone that would like to get something similar in other states. Not much response. I don't know about you, but I get angry when I see these cars, and think of the poor guys buying them. Yes, I understand it is usually uninformed first time buyers that have no clue, so we smugly sit back and say he or she should have known better. However, the fake tag makers are getting better, and unless we make it illegal, the practice will grow and one day it could affect one of you. How many of you knew right away that the tag Kurt posted was a fake?

Besides the tag KurtS poste here:

the fake tags are EVERYWHERE. I am convinced they will continue to expand unless someone takes action. That someone should but us.

Here is a "Z/28" built in Oct 68 but with a March X33 tag. Nice Ace Hardware rivets.

Here is another that the seller swears is not a fake tag because they did their research and did not buy the car blindly. Claims the car has been certified:

So, next time you have some time on your hands, write a letter (don't call, write) to your state rep or senator. Send them a copy of the Law in OK. Tell him or her that these guys are swapping tags, cars end up misrepresented and folks swindled out of millions. Ask him or her to sponsor similar legislation. Talk to every car guy or gal you know, and find out if any of them have friends in the legislature. That is probably the one who will sponsor it. The lawmakers in OK that I talked with were absolutely floored to find this was going on and that it was not illegal under federal law.
Here is a link to our law. It isn't complex. I will also be glad to post a copy of the first draft that was not in "lawmaker" format, so you can see the changes that were made during the legislative process.

Come on, these lawmakers work for us. Put them to work.
