Obviously, this blogger was pushing new (or newer) Chevrolet products, and probably getting some kickback from Chevrolet, but this line in his article cracked me up; <span style="font-weight: bold">&quot;Some cars do not make an appearance, including the Monte Carlo, Chevelle, and COPO Camaro. I would guess that a lot of those cars listed are faster than the 60s and 70s muscle cars.

Also, most of these computer controlled wiz machines have some sort of traction control. Add just that feature to the 60s/70s muscle cars. &quot;Traction controls&quot; make any 16 year old think they're Ronnie Sox ... they have no idea what &quot;feather the throttle&quot; means.

I think you're thinking of launch control, which is a completely different animal than traction control. Conventional traction control kills cylinders until the wheels stop spinning. Handy in the snow, useless at the dragstrip. I don't know much of anything about the new Challenger. Does it have launch control? The old one didn't. I don't think any of the American cars have it, but I could be wrong; I don't pay much attention to the late models anymore.

Anyway, launch control on the old Challenger wouldn't have made a bit of difference, because launch control can't make up for the massive power deficit. A stock Stage II Street Hemi in average showroom trim puts down about 290-300 real horsepower to the tires. Not even in the same zip code as the new one. Put Ronnie Sox in a manual trans Hellcat and he could spot the '70 five cars and the leave and still win by two at the stripe. It's a brave new world.

Spot on.. As much as I LOVE old cars, they new stuff is faster. No question.

Just watched a totally bogus race at the NHRA race -- they put the new Hell-Kitty against a real Hemi Challenger ... with the dude from Gas Ape garage driving the new MoPar. The real Hemi got waxed!! What they need to do is shut off the TC and have at it again -- you will know damn well the tires will not hold 700HP without TC -- and I am not sure in the Gas Ape dude knows how to drive a HP car without all the gizmos to control traction ... The TAZ
