L78 CRD build code question

I picked up this NOVA 22 years ago from a guy that had it in his shed for years and it has sat in my garage for most of all of that time. I just got the urge to get the thing on the road again (retired now so have the time). I was redoing the interior and happened to find the build sheet under the rear seat. I found and talked to the second owner and he said it was bought as a race car by a young kid in 69 (and he said it did come with a 427). The car is in excellent shape with only 14,000 miles on it. I was wondering if any would know what CRD means in the 4th code box (the car did not come with hardly any options at all. Will post pics when I find out how..... SORRY IT'S A 69 NOVA

***CRD code appears on a lot of the Fisher Body sheets...I don't recall anyone ever defining what it truly means.

I just finished putting the 4 speed back into it (came with it). When I got it it had a switch pitch 400 turbo in it (very neat tranny for racing)

You are fortunate that you have a '69 Nova because that is the only year for the 3rd gen's that have the engine code on the Body Broadcast Sheet (what you have is technically not a 'build sheet'). I've heard from some that the 'CRD' denotes that SS option in that it required specific body piercings (SS tailpanel, etc...), but that has not been confirmed. BTW, the M20 notation is actually an indicator that the car is a 4speed as opposed to it actually having an M20 version - it could have an M21 or and M22 for example. The other options are easy to decipher.

The trim tag is pretty plain, just the 732 interior (black custom bench) and the Cortez Silver top/bottom, being built in the 4th week of December with 'A' on the bottom row indicating that interior painted items are black. No single digit number after the 'A' indicates that the car did not receive any exterior moldings, (drip rail, door frame, body side or rocker).

Looks to have the original exhaust on it - and an interesting array of bolt-on's: traction bars with rear sway bar, drive shaft hoop, brake booster removed, pan between the grill and core support, maybe some aluminum brake drums on the rear?? and perhaps a respray (with extra metallic?).

I'd like to hear more about the 427 story.....

M...I just pulled out a few of the Fisher Body sheets on some of the cars...there is no CRD on any of the 70 SS cars...but, there is a CRD in the same box [#4] on the 69 6cyl granny we used to own. That car did have brite window trim, b/s moldings and drip rail/vinyl roof.

Well as far as I know the original owner was a young kid (in his twenties)that bought the car new with a 427 in it and raced it. He kept building the engine up until he exploded it. The car was then bought by the person I purchased it from 22 years ago, he put a 427 in it and blew that one up, I purchased it and I put the present 427 in it. I have talked to the second owner recently and he explained it all to me. He did not have any info on where the car was originally purchased new. Yes the car was originally cortez silver but the first owner sprayed it metalflake blue (why? not sure, but it's going back to original CORTEZ SILVER THIS winter)
