State Street Motors Inc Sycamore, IL 507 Zone 11

Like many I received an NCRS shipping report on a 69 Z/28 with an obscure dealer that has gone out of business around 1984. Since it was conceived, and went out of business (1961-1984) pre-internet there is absolutely ZERO on it on Google or the internet. Extremely frustrated, I turned to Sycamore History Museum page on Facebook. Alas someone responded and said they had records of the State Street's existence on 1330 E State Street in Sycamore. They then directed me to the local paper's archive which was a treasure trove of old newspaper ads they posted back in the day.

My advise is if you cannot find info on your old dealer, see if the town has a Historical Society. I am elated at what I have found thus far. Next search, license plate frames and pictures of the old dealership. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

I certainly remember driving past the dealership a number of times many years ago, but as you say, it's been gone 30 years now. The town of Sycamore holds a HUGE car show every summer, around this time. There has to be some long time resident that's also a car enthusiast who would have some helpful info for you.

Plate frames were a seldom seen item at most dealerships in Northern IL back in the day.....especially for a small dealership, which State Street Motors certainly was.

Interesting side note: The other dealership listed in the ads, 4th Street Motors in DeKalb, had a Garnet red 69 Malibu 4 door hardtop that someone ordered with a 300hp 350 and 4 speed, and then backed out of the deal. It sat at the dealership for quite a time before a guy from Aurora IL bought it and made a street/strip car out of it.
