Default Sad day for you Chevelle guys

You may remember me posting about a Chevelle that was in the basement of a house when the house burnt. Today I was able to finally photograph it. So sad to see this 70 454 4spd in this shape but thankfully the family made it out of the house ok. Obviously I didn't get at the tank sticker the because of where it is sitting so I took what pics I could. I may have to dispatch our tiltbed to go pick it up but since they are still battling with the insurance company I don't know if they'll let it move.

Horrible sight. ..Thank god they made it out OK.
Originally forest green with green cloth bench seat.
That's a 1973-1980 454cid truck block in there.
Rims,Mast.cyl. & back bumper not authentic to a'70 SS.

I knew posting what pics I could get of the area's I knew to look for that you guys would be a big help in determining what this car really was short of a build sheet or protectoplate. After getting the numbers off the block I had a feeling it was a truck motor.

By the vin can anyone tell if the car fell in a build of certain types - L78, LS5 or LS6?

Not on a 1970. You can just tell if it was a V8 or 6 cyl car.

Actually the VIN will tell you an approximate build date of the car (can't read it on the cowl tag) and that will eliminate one or the other of the LS6 or L78. The L78 ceased production on or about October 30th, 1969 and the LS6 began on that same date. The car's rear axle and/or trans codes will tell more about what it is assuming they are original which they likely were not in this car as it appears to be modified.

I would assume the green cloth interior would tell everyone that is wasn't an SS, therefore not an L78 or LS6, etc
