Default 1978 C3 Corvette Color Options

My wife and I own a '78 Corvette 25th Anniversary Pace Car. To our knowledge this was the only year offered in the black and silver with (or without) Pace Car badging. I went to a car show this past Sunday and there were two cars painted in the black and silver paint with red striping and both were identified by their owners as 1979's. That makes three that I know of. I know that one was repainted to the '78 Pace Car color scheme because that's what the owner wanted.

Does anyone know if the Black and Silver (with red striping) combination was offered in 1979? Would appreciate any input.

Thanks.

Can't comment on 79's, but a guy that worked at a gas station down the street from me bought a "new" demo car in 76 or 77, from Gates Chevrolet in Mishawaka that came with the special black and silver paint scheme used on the 78's. It had a tag riveted under the hood as I recall that said it was a special paint car if it ever needed paint work later on. It was long ago, but I believe his name was Gary Daniels.

----Back in that time period I was flipping 1977 thru 1982s like they were popcorn out of Classic Motors. They just sold so easily. With that said I never saw a 79 black and silver Corvette done by the factory. I should add that Classic Motors was sort of a subsidiary of Jack Douglass Chevrolet and I also sold a number of new ones as well......Bill S

All 1974-1982 Corvettes (except Indy Pace Cars, love those) should be crushed. Along with whatever 1974-1978 Mustang IIs are left. Who's with me??

Sorry, continue with regular programming.

Eh, I like almost all C3's; something about the coke bottle lines that are just so beautiful.
My favs are 1968-1977 and 1980-1982.
