Posted in the lounge instead of technical, as it is so far off topic from muscle car stuff. Anyway, thought someone here could help. After all, you guys know everything, right?
Bought a Chevy engine and trans from BIG chevy grain truck to transplant into my 49 Studebaker farm truck. I think it is a 72 C60. Not sure which 5 speed I got. Apparently, there were a lot of 5 speeds available back then. M58 : NEW PROCESS 540GL. 5 SPEED TRANS. M59 : 5 SPEED CLOSE RATIO TRANS. - NP. M75 : 5 SPEED NEW PROCESS TRANS M76 : 5 SPEED CLOSE RATIO TRANS. CLARK M77 : 5 SPEED TRANS - CLARK M78 : 5 SPEED TRANS - SPICER M79 : 5 SPEED CLOSE RATIO TRANS. - SPICER M85 : SPICER 5752C, 5 SPEED TRANS. MT8 : SPICER 3152A, 5 SPEED TRANS MT9 : SPICER 3152F 5 SPEED TRANS I deleted the 4 speed and 10 speed trans options. I do know this one is a five speed, and it is big. Massive 1.5 inch input shaft. Truck is being parted out, and is still parked. I am going over there in the morning to get some clutch linkage parts. I know a lot of the 70's chevy trucks have an option sheet taped in the glove box. I am hoping it is still there. I will also get the vin and any data plate info I can. Just need to know what trans I have so I can get some gaskets and seals. Can post some pics tomorrow.

I believe it is a new process based on the shift pattern.
Still, there are 3 to choose from.

New Process 542GL.
Don't you wish all the muscle cars had a data plate on the glove box door.

It's a New Process NP542. The 5 digit casting number on the side of the case would have also identified it. At my old job, we used to sell these for $200-$300 used.

I noticed that after I cleaned up the pic and cropped it. I did not even LOOK at the instrument cluster, even when I was removing the speedo cable (which I left hanging) so I don't know if the tach is still there. It is a good 30 miles away, so don't know that I would make the trip just for that. I can make a phone call and find out.
