In a major deviation from the norm, we have taken on a 69 Mustang Mach I 428 CJ all the way from Tucson, AZ. The owner has been waiting over a year to get a slot in the shop and we finally made room. As much as I would love to restore this car (virtually everything on it is as born with including the exhaust) we are only rebuilding the entire drivetrain and brakes, cleaning the interior, doing some minor ding repair and a total buffing. The owner just wants to drive his old car again as it has been parked since the mid 70's and has virtually NO interest in muscle cars! NO, he will NOT sell the car as he inherited it from his father! One very cool ride though. I hope to document every marking on the car. Looked for a buildsheet but so far nothing. San Jose cars are not known for having them like the other plants. A/C car, Ram Air, positraction, fold down rear seat, but missing virtually all of the engine bolts and much of the peripherals such as, distributor, starter, etc and the owner has no idea where they are. Those will not be easy items to find.

And some of you guys thought Charley went over to the dark side.
Rick, when you finish it, you need to post a pic of Darth Vader in the driver's seat! At least photo shop it.

Already in the works but I will likely be the one paying for it because he could care less. Sad but its his car.

Major deviation from the norm, I guess! Not trying to be a smart ass, but with an owner as relatively disinterested as this one seems to be, does it really make sense to take on such a project? I would think you'd have a tough time dialing down your normal pursuit of perfection.

The Marti Report won't tell you much more than you already know...the cylinder heads as pictured are CJ heads (4 exhaust manifold bolt holes per cylinder).
I had the 4 speed version of the Mach I back in the day and have a '69 428 SCJ 4 speed Ranchero GT is in my garage now. Call or text me any time Rick if you want any 428 CJ info... Cheers Cal |
