This fantastic 1960's A.O. Smith Model #485 Shelby Cobra Themed Gasoline Double-Sided Pump is the ultimate Shelby tribute piece of Automobilia. This seldom seen model was restored beyond original. A.O. Smith's involvement in gas pumps is primary linked to their production of Smith Pumps which were later acquired by A.O. Smith Corporation. Reuben Smith, a later founder of Smith Pumps sold the Smith Meter Company to A.O. Smith Corporation in 1937. The company then began producing Butane/Propane pumps in 1939 and expanded its line to include bulk plant and truck pumps by 1942. By the 1960's, they added more pumps models including small capacity pumps and severe duty service options. This example, Serial #WL95691 is an original service department gasoline pump. From the information gathered this example was in very good original condition prior to a complete restoration in 2022. During the restoration process it was stripped to bare metal. It was refinished with automotive grade red and white paint. The base was decorated with painted white racing stripes that are outlined with painted red pinstripes for a realistic appearance. Cobra decals were applied in the middle of the stripes. The glass panels that cover the white fascia with gallons and dollars were replaced with plastic panels. It was outfitted with a reproduction plastic red and white matching globe. The globe also has a matching Cobra along with operational light. It was also outfitted with an Irpco black hose and Husky handle. The letter G for the word gallons is missing on one side and the keys don't operate the locks that open the unit doors. This entire piece has been detailed and is in show quality condition. The measurements are 64”x24”x17”.
