Thanks M. Here is another pic. from same era, 1966, in Long Island, NY. My car also raced at Bridgehampton. I'd bet it and Thompsons car crossed paths more than a few times.
Rick Note the 1/2" copper oil lines by the battery. The first owner worked at Bast Chevrolet and had great access to parts. This was before it was legal to run the front mount oil cooler. The oil cooler was mounted on the back seat firewall, and the copper lines were run to it. These copper lines were actually the GM freon lines for an A/C optioned corvair. The copper helped to cool the oil also. Everything was fine as long as you had a window open to let cool air inside to the cooler. Sorry for my long and rambling post. Nice pictures Rick and its an interesting oil cooler. The oil must get hot in the Corvair. In the Yenko Stinger road test in Car and Driver magazine they show a huge oil cooler Yenko mounted on top of the rear fender like on an Indy Car of that era. The story goes that the other drivers protested it because they were affraid it would fall off. In 1967 SCCA wrote a rule to prohibit that oil cooler and Yenko had to change it.

JoeC> That car with the oil cooler mounted on the drivers side rear quarterpanel had #13 on the car. The car was owned and drove by Russ MacGrotty. My car was ordered and delivered new from Russ MacGrotty Chevrolet.
