Hi All, I just discovered this site. I was looking through the feature cars and saw Jeff Latondress' 1969 COPO Chevelle and wondered if that was my old Chevelle. I was the second owner of a similar car from 1972 - 74. It was one of the 3 COPO Chevelles sold by Central Chev Olds in London, Ontario. Mine didn't have the black stripe on the side.
The original owner lived in Brampton, Ontario. He said that when he ordered the car it took 6 months before he got it. He replaced the 4.10 rear end with a 3.08. When I owned it I blew the motor and put a 396 in it. Seeing the car brought back some memories. Wish I could afford to buy one. Andy |

Welcome to this B/B. I owned Jeffs COPO in mid 90's and sold it to the man Jeff bought it from. I have the copies of its paperwork. There was a Twin COPO orange sister Chevelle sent to Central Olds Chevy with it. Do you by chance have the VIN# of the COPO you owned? You say the original 427 engine was blown up? Was it destroyed,or put in a corner somewhere? Any more details you can share, old Polaroids? Rick |

Just curious if you know the colours of the 3 COPO Chevelles you know of that Central sold. I have heard many stories as to how many that dealership actually sold.

Do you live in Canada? I have a title search from Ontario that list several owners all of them in Canada thru 1979. Jeff |

I'll try to answer all your questions. I do live in Canada. When I owned the car I lived in Georgetown, Ontario. The original owner and the person who owned it after me lived in Brampton. Both towns are near Toronto. I'm currently living in Alberta. Moved here in 1974.
I have no idea how many were sold by Central. This is the first site I found with that info so I was refering to the 3 that were mentioned here, I only remember seeing one other COPO Chevelle in the early 70's. That was a blue one that occasionally raced at Cayuga. I do remember mine had a July 1969 build date, it was in the info with the owners manual and it had the Central Chev Olds chrome plastic nameplate on the trunk lid. I mentioned mine didn't have the black strip on the side. Also it didn't have the decal on the air cleaner. I thought I had the VIN for it but have been unable to find it. Also looking for some pictures. As for the motor. The pickup fell out of the oil pump and ruined the block. I ended up selling the motor to raise cash to buy the 396. Andy |

COPO Pete, you were asking about the the COPO Chevelles sold at Central. I see that COPO Connection lists 3 Chevelles sold at Central, yours, Jeff's and a Garnet Red belonging to Wayne S. Mr70 mentioned another orange one sold there so it seems like they may have sold 4 of them.
Mr70 do you have any info on that other orange Chevelle? Andy |

Yes,thats the one I was referring to.
I meant to say they were both Baltimore Assembled, then both shipped to Canada. Not the exact same dealership. Sorry for the error. |

In '69 a friend of mine bought an orange COPO Chevelle through Beare Motors in Port Perry, Ontario. It is my understanding that this car came from a dealer in the Toronto area. Belmont Chev-Olds had one like it in their show room. It could have been the same car. Anyone have information on this one. It was an M22 4 speed car with the black vinyl bench seat.

Thanks for clearing that up. Do you know of any other orange COPO Chevelles with an automatic in Ontario? I remember seeing one on the Internet last year. There was an article about a fellow in Ontario that did a restoration on one. When I went to follow up on it the article was gone. I believe it was at www.canoe.ca. Possibly a reprint from the Toronto Sun.
