67 Chevelle SS 427 3 duece from dealer!!!!!
Guys I'm new to this website but I want to share something with you and get some feed back as to what its worth.
A couple of years ago I was telling a story, that my fatherin law and some of his friends had told me many times before, to a car collector. I began that our neighbor had a 67 Chevelle SS 427 3 Duece carb engine from the factory. I was stopped qiuckly by the collector and told there was no such option or car. I was extremely aggravated and left promptly. I spent the next year or so back tracking and researching about this car.
Heres the deal, this individual ordered a black with red interior, 4 speed,396 cid, 1967 chevelle. When the car arrived on the transport to the dealer here in town there was a 427 3 duece engine in the crate waiting for the car. It was complete. It was installed in the car before the customer took delivery of it.THe mechanic that did the swap kept the original 396 engine for years after.I have talked to several people who either witness or did the work on the car at the dealership. The customer took delivery and ran it on the steet for a while and then parked it.It was sold and then traded in at another dealership where a mechanic purchased it and removed the 427.That person ended up in legal trouble and the car was sold back to the original owner. He did not get the 427 engine. He has since had the car turned into a race car.
I have found the 427 , believe this or not , on a dairy farm in the back of an old van with the original aircleaner on it.
COULD THIS BE CLASSIFIED AS A COPO since the engine was dealer install and was a GM crate engine. Or is this just a THATS INTERESTING car.
