I was at a Hooters Cruise Night last night and I saw a 1965 Impala SS 396 for sale. It said he had the build sheet showing it was an original 396/425 hp car. Were any of these ever built?

I think they built 1800 of 'em? In all full-size models, for the most part.
That dude in GA with all the cars (whose name escapes me) had a Biscayne 4-door with that engine. |

Well, the car had an automatic in it so I don't know if it was a 325hp or 425 hp car originally. He was asking $7500 so if it was a real 425 car, I thought it would be worth more. The build date was 12A, is this too early for a 396 car? I read that the 396 wasn't available until Feb.

-----There were definetly 396/425 Impalas made.A friend of mine has a yellow/white gut SS that the engine has never been out of.Im pretty sure that you couldnt get an automatic, however. At least I have never seen or heard of one!.......Bill S

The trim tag had 65-16637 which shows it as an Impala SS with a V8. The TH400 leads me to believe it was a 396/325 hp car though.

The 396 did not come out until Feb 15, 1965. Before that you had to live with a 409!
