69 Camaro 302 convert?

OK, here's for the number guys here. I have been communicating with a guy on the east coast who claims to have a 69 Camaro convertible with the original 302, 4 speed, 12 bolt in it. I told him his engine code was a 350, he came back with an answer you guys can diasect. Following is three Emails I recieved from him, so whats his story on the numbers say? hey matt that car was in storage for 30 years it has 66k miles it is 99% rust free and complete all #s match 302 stick 12 bolt orange /black interior/white top thanks tony


all the casting on the block are 302 the front pad is to0224hc it is oringnal 302 block vin is stamped on the side by the oil filter and the heads are also date coded it is an oddball car i did alot of legwork on this car and it is real i want 15000 for the car firm it is on of about 7 cars with this motor thanks tony


matt run the #s the car came from ill. it is a 302 block the hc suffix when crossed with block casting #3932388 is not a 350 250 horse this block is 4 bolt main the heads are 76cfm casting #3932441 v18 b14 and the distribtor 1s 1114869 the car also has 12 bolt with 5 leaf suppension this was a special order the paint is 90% oringnal as are the hockey puck strips that i was told only came on ss but this car has them thanks tony

As Jeff H corrected me this is a 350/2brrl (HC) car. Also notice what Mosportgreen66 states, 350 badging.

Not think about it why such a low price for a 1 off car of only 15K firm. Had it been a new find with a numbers matching 302 in it and it being a convt and DOC's to back it up, the guy could buy a new house with the sale.

I'm certainly not the #'s expert on this board, but everything he provided points to a 250hp 350 Camaro.

1. True the block is rare and was use in two documented Z/28's (i.e. as a 302) and at least 4 documented 350 "SS" cars. According to the books the casting dates on those cars ranged from L 20 8 to C 11 9.

Otherwise, it was generally used in passenger applications. It is considered to be fairly rare in Camaro applications and is in fact a four bolt main.

The HC code is clearly a 250hp 350 code, as the DZ code was used for the 302.

2. The head casting number 3932441 is a 350 head only, with applications for 250hp and 255hp engines.

3. The distributor number 1114869??? Should it be 111486? Is listed as being used in 350/250hp S/T.

Sounds to me like a 350/250hp S/T Camaro convertible.

Yeah, he's really hung up on the block casting # and thinks it can only be a 302. The car isn't even an SS so he's going to get himself in trouble if he doesn't start taking advice and listing it correctly.

You guys are correct. He does not have a 302 in his 69 Camaro. The 388 block is rare though. Most are late 68 as mentioned above. I currently have one of these blocks and it is a 4-bolt 300 HP and has 041 heads. I also had a 388 2-bolt block out of a 69 Implala. Colvin's book says 4-bolt only? But I know anyhing is possible.

I didnt even know this was recently on auction, those are the first photos I have seen of the engine. If he is claiming that intake to be correct he has lost it.....it has the intake oik fill which was gone in 69, correct? The remarks in Colvins book are odd though.

I corresponded with him before he listed it on ebay. Told him what it was (L65 w/ manual trans). It is unique in that it's a 3 speed and has a 12 bolt.
He totally misrepresents it and cannot correctly interpret what people tell him in emails and books. Look at his feedback too.

The 388 block is not rare. It was used as much or more than the 386 block and it can be 2 or 4 bolt. Alan is supposed to be updating that note in his book (which has caused a lot of confusion).
