One of my 69 Camaros that I own is a ragtop, with the build date being (11D), 4th week in November. Something is odd about the cowltag numbers. Where the X-style trim group # should be, it has the code <font color="#666666"> </font> U511. Does anybody know what this means?

Sounds like its a Van Nuys car? (Trim code says "LOS" instead of "NOR") Only the Norwood, Ohio cars have "X-codes".

thats the internal plant code for the LOS assembly plant. LOS cars did not get the "X" codes. Early NOR cars did not get them either until Dec or so.

Yes, it is a (LOS) car, but what can I distinguish from this number....(U511)? What does it mean? Does it refer to the style trim group?

No its just an internal plant scheduling production code. It means something to the effect of #511 during the "U" build period. It has nothing to do with the trim code.

Thanks for the info!! My hardtop on the other hand is also a (LOS) car, but it doesn't have a production code what so over. No numbers at all.

So with this code (U511), there really isn't a way to tell what the style trim code is? If so, how would one find out?

Some LOS cars have the internal build code, some don't. Other than that, I haven't heard of any other translation.
