Yes it's my car.And yes it's a very early one being "0 9 C " on the tag.As far as the only one with t-tops ,I think I said "believed to be",now I am not 100% sure of that but that was mentioned to me by someone on this board who has a great wealth of knowledge on these Yenko cars.
Next the reason I stated "believed to be" the prototype is the fact that it was built in Van Nuys (the only one of the 19 "believed" to be built there) and shipped to the Gardena Chevy dealer and then to TURBO INTERNATIONAL in Garden Grove.By the way the Turbo Z's are a project that YENKO AND TURBO INTERNATIONAL did together!!! It is also "believed to be" the only one with the Turbo International plate frame on the rear. With that said you can understand why i say I "think"it is the prototype unless Yenko has a early order from that area and just had TURBO INTERNATIONAL build that car and deliver since the end product was the same.To the best of my knowledege TURBO INTERNATIONAL sent the Turbo's to Yenko in a "kit" so thus the end product was the same.I guess this could be the only car that actually had TURBO INTERNATIONAL lay their hands on it.If the above thoughts are facts then Yenko had to do was send them a set of stickers and have a set of seats and wheels delivered and thus a Turbo Z is born prototype or not you guys decide! I am claiming to be no expert here but TURBO INTERNATIONAL has long ago closed and I have been unable to reach any of it's past owners/ employees. So with that said

Cool car, good luck! I particularly like the part about the end product being the same, even though it never went thru PA. Hmmm, sounds familiar.

I believe this car was a joint effort with Turbo International and Yenko Chevrolet. The car is the only one I have seen with the tops and was a highly optioned magazine car from 1981. There are probably more articles on this car that the McMurry cars. The car was a mule car for develpoment and CA emissions testing for what I have gathered. Neat piece of Yenko authorized history. Sort of like Kevins S new Dana/Yenko Corvair..BKH

Cool Car. I thought all '81 Z28s destined for California only had the 305 V8s and not the 350s.
What suspension modifications does that car have? |

No, I meant from what I have read about the car it was a joint effort on R&D. California emissions vs. the other 49. Much like the Hurst Deuces. What are you guys saying?...BKH
