Default discarded L78s?

What did Motion do with the L78s he pulled out of these cars to replace with 427s, give to orig. owners or did he part them out for private sale?

I would bet that he had a long list of guys just waiting for a pull out so they could stuff it in their '55 or '57 chev or something else. Those were valuable motors to the average working hotrodder and Joel would have no problem disposing of them. In fact given the cost of the new motor and the resale of the used L-78 he would have been coming out pretty well $$$. The difference would not be anywhere near as much if he sold the old motor retail.

I heard a lot of the L78's that were removed were sold to the Navy to replace the 409 blocks that were used as anchors....could just be urban legend.

Yeah, that's a lot of anchors from Yenko, Motion, Dana, and Nickey!

Well the straight six they pulled the tags off had to be registered at one point and not reported stolen, for this bigblock 427 to get a good registration using the six's #'s

The L-78's were mostly sold through the Baldwin Chevrolet parts department. There was a good article about this a few years back in one of the mags.

I just can't see them using a 375hp motor? would not idle smooth and use too much gas. a low compression 360 hp would be a much better motor for them to use. JMO.... Who know's sounds like a good question for someone to find the answer to?
