Hi guys!
I'm in the middle of rebuilding the 12-bolt rear out of my 69 SS Camaro and I ran into a snag of sorts. I failed to purchase the necessary components to rebuild the posi unit itself. So, I called the supplier (DTS) today and this is where the snag began. ![]() From what DTS told me, there were several posi unit manufacturers back in the day and some of the unit components are no longer available. SNAG!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]() OK, I can't tell if I have a GM or Eaton, or etc. posi unit. The casting numbers I got off of the 3 series carrier are: EDB-30140 1, then an 8 8 number which looks like a casting date ( August 68 ). The 12-bolt is a 3.08 posi that came out of an early build SS 396. The 12-bolt housing has a late August 68 casting date as well and I believe the posi unit is the original unit. Can anyone help me identify the posi unit I have based on the numbers I posted? I can tell you that this posi unit has four coil-type springs about 1.5 inches long ( in their compressed state ). Lastly, if DTS can't supply me with the replacement posi internals I need for this rebuild, can any of you suggest a source? Please don't say eBay ! ![]() Thanks in advance. Steve
