Default 1967 427 Impala SS? Convertible on Ebay

There is a 1967 427 convertible on ebay...seems to be discussion as to whether or not it's real...if it is, why doesn't it have the domed hood? Still kinda cool color combo. Why are there so many cars in Illinois?

Read the questions that the potential bidders have...

Hey Belair...that sure looks like your neighborhood...

it looks pretty decent, things look correct and in order...and its sporting some options..my first question would be show me that the confratron works properly...you want a class A headache sort out one of those thats sick and not working right, dont believe me look at a assembly manual for that system...I dont think it will bring that kind of money with rust issues and looking like it needs to be redone under the hood..almost looks like the dreaded body shop dust..that stuff is brutal when it gets on your good stuff...other than that I like it!

yea it does look like Bobs cousin Vinny's Place down the street...whats up with that??? Bob you curbing cars again????

Bud.

Only the RPO coded Z-24 would have the domed hood and carried the model designation SS427. This is an Impala Super Sport with the 427 engine. Two different models.

The Z-24 would have the domed hood, unique front fender emblems and trunk emblem. I believe the the Los Angelas plant also used the "4 D" designation on the cowl tag for the SS427.

I went to see this car with a good friend recently.
It's a Very nice car & even better in person.
I hope he obtains it,as docking it at the curb at weekend cruises would gather it much deserved attention.

I am not understanding something here! Is not a Super Sport 427 the same as a SS 427.I thought SS was short for SuperSport.I could see where a regular Impala is not a SS but I thought a Supersport ans SS car were the same.

Bobby, A simple answer is......no. for three years (1967-69) Impalas could be ordered with a special RPO code Z-24. This was above the Super Sport option. Nowhere on a '67-69 SS427 does the car say Super Sport. For all intensive purposes, it is still a Super Sport but it was built with the Z-24 package not the Super Sport package if that makes sense. With the Z-24 package, you normally got front/side and rear SS427 emblems, SS427 glove box emblem (some years) a domed hood, special suspension, steering wheel emblem, and some possible other itmes that I am missing. In 1966, you could order a Super Sport 427 Impala but there was in fact no SS427 Z-24 option available that year.

You could also go into Chevrolet and order a Super Sport (with) the 427 engine. This would give you all the Super Sport options but without the Z-24 visual add ons. Clear as mud right.

Rick, could you order that same 427 in a standard Impala that wasnt an SS427, nor a SuperSport?

Nothing personal,I just see this phrase wrongly repeated constantly.
It should be,"to all intents and purposes.."

Joe,
To all intents and purposes in '67 and '68 the answer would be yes. Technically in '69 the answer should be yes as well. The difference being, in a standard Impala or Caprice, the 335hp 427 was the normal option but you could upgrade to the 390 hp. The big difference is the Impala SS was ONLY available as an SS427 in 1969. Literature states that the SS427 Impala was only available in 1969 with the 390 hp version but I have documents showing to the contrary as they could be had with the 335 hp 427.
