409 Parts Wanted
I am looking for a set of heads and exhaust manifolds for a 64 409. The casting # for the heads are 3814690 and the exhaust manifolds are 3822925 and 3822926.

690's used to be pretty hard to find...they are out there though...I'm sure Mr Frantz can locate a set for you and give you a quick lesson on them.

That 348-409 web site is great. There is alot of information there.
I just bought a 64 2-door sedan with the 400hp 409. It has a heater and radio delete in pretty good shape The problem is the original block is it the trunk so I am going to need alot of motor parts. Thanks for the help

Knappy,
Check your cowl tag. IF your car was built after the 2nd week of Nov. '63 (11B) you should actually have 583 heads, not 690s. That's when production switched from the 930 (.520" lift) cam to the 7735 (Z-11) cam. The 583s are identical to the 690s except they have more meat under the valve spring pockets, which allowed them to be machined deeper to accomodate the higher valve lift without coil bind. Do NOT put a Z-ll cam and 690 heads together. And don't try to machine the valve spring perches on the 690s - you'll hit water. By the way (just my opinion), you're getting into 409s at a time when things are more expensive then they've ever been. Expect to spend $2K for a "decent" set of heads.
