I have a DZ block that I wnat to verify that it is real. The casting # is 3956618, the build dat is B 13 9 and on the front pad is VO3I7DZ. I can not find a VIN # any where on the block, I have looked by the oil filter but it is't there. I seriously doubt that it is a restamp, I have had this block for over 22 years. I know that if anyone can help it is you guys. Thanks in advance. Bob

The 3956618 casting number is correct for a 69 302 engine, used for a variety of vehicles, 2 and 4 bolt, including the Z.
Casting date - Feb. 13, 1969 Datecode - March 17th, 1969 DZ - 69 Z28, 290hp, 4bolt with 4speed Muncie. It is sometimes a real pain in the A$$ to find that Vin# down by the oil filter. Try using some silly putty.

A real DZ has a vin, they ALL do, sometimes you really gotta look for it, try a half covered 400 watt light bulb by the oil filter. Restamping was going on 22 years ago, just not as rampant as it is today...

I'll bet the VIN is stamped by the filter. I have one that you couldn't see at all until I had it hot tanked.
