Does anyone know the address or very near location of the old Miami Dragway? And what year it closed?

Check out the "drag strip stories" page of hotrodder.com. This is a great, but little known, resource for trying to find history of a particular race car or drag strip. Just scroll down to the state that the drag strip was in and start clicking. Be careful though, it's easy to spend a lot of time on this site. Good luck.

The only thing I found over there was an un answered question not too far from mine. I want the address or general location so I can get a satellite photo of what's left of it. If anything.
[ QUOTE ] What has happened to Hollywood Speedway and to the Miami Dragway??? Is it still in use? What kind of condition is it in? Would anyone happen to have the address? or a contact? [/ QUOTE ] |

Well, sorry that site was of no help to you. You could also try thevintageracer.com. It features satellite photos of lots of old drag strips. You need to check under a lot of diffent categories over there such as "still visible, partially visible, etc." Not the easiest site to navigate, but hopefully you can find something there. In your photo, is that an aluminum nose, 4-door Max Wedge car?

Nothing on that site for it either, I checked all the categories. Thanks for trying though. I know nothing about the pic, just posted it because it's suppose to be from Miami Dragstrip. I have found out that it may have been west of Hollywood Florida, and may have shut down around 1973-4. But nothing in stone. I've scanned the satellite views from Miami to Hollywood, but not found a sign of it yet. Google Earth is my viewer. |

Steved,
-------You bring up a good question. I spent many a day there and cant quite remember what street in Hollywood it was on. Possibly Griffin Rd. but Im just not sure. It was way west, further than the turnpike I think, but not as far as 75. I last ran there on a Wed. night in 1991 with friends (kind of test and tune) with "Red Alert". One of those friends succumbed to cancer a short while later and thats why I remember it so clearly. Another strip that got encroached upon!!! -------P.S.,,,I see your new post, Steved, but my dates are correct so it was still open in 1991. I do remember those same friends telling me a year or so later that it had finally closed. I do have some pics somewhere of that day.......Bill S |

Did it convert and move locations in 1974 to what was later known as Miami Hollywood Speedway Park? |

-----Same location always as far as I know. It might have been closed for a few years back at the time you mentioned and reopened but I have never heard that........Bill S

I've looked all the way down Griffin until it turns to heavy woods, mile north and south with no luck. But it's very hard when there is so much development, could have easily missed it.

Mark, if you look close, those are the "Lawman" station wagons. Lots of wagons raced back then.
