Default Zedders Stupendous 1967 L79 Corvette

I have been trying to pry a '67 Z-28 away from its owner for more than 7 years now and call him religiously every Spring and Fall to ask if he has any interest in selling. He usually responds that he is thinking about it, but he just isn't ready yet. When I made my call in October, he said that he didn't really want to sell it, but if I could find him a nice '67 Corvette Coupe he would trade me. So, I began the hunt for a car that he might be interested in. While searching, I came across an ad for a '67 L79 Coupe with Air Conditioning that was described as an unbelievable original . I asked for more info and hit Noland Adams' Mid Year book to hone up on my '67 Corvette knowledge. Well, it turns out that they only made 444 L79 C60 Corvettes in 1967, so the car was pretty rare.
The seller told me that the car was his father's, Mr. P, and that he had owned it since 1970. The car was ordered new from Jay Kline Chevrolet in MN and was traded in on another car in 1969. Mr. P saw the car on Kline's lot and stopped to take a look, but it was already sold. A year later, he was driving past a used car lot when he spied a blue '67 Coupe with Cragar wheels. Upon closer inspection, he realized it was the same car that he had looked at a year earlier He negotiated the deal and then spent the next 35 years lovingly caring for his Corvette. The car was always stored in a heated garage and never saw bad weather after 1970. Mr. P's son told me how he and his brothers would get sat down and spoken to if his father ever found finger prints on his prized Corvette. Needless-to-say, selling the car was a very emotional experience for them all.

With just 58,000 miles on the odometer, the car is in amazing shape for an unrestored car. Original paint, interior, and mechanicals. The only items changed over the years were wear items, and most of these were saved and came with the car. The Cragars were swapped out for a set of '65 knock-off wheels. The car has a very desirable color combo of Marina Blue paint with Bright Blue and White interior. The options include PS, PW, AM/FM, L79, C60 and 3.70 posi and can be verified by the POP and tank sticker (which is still in the gas tank). The original docs include the POP, radio card and trim ring installation card. The original Uniroyal Laredo White Wall spare was in the tub and has never been on the road.

We brought the car across the border on the first weekend in December and had quite a time with the Canadian Customs Officers. They detained my buddy and I and split us up for questioning while they tried to determine what price I paid for the car for tax purposes (15% tax on imported vehicles ). They asked for my ebay name, bank account info, the seller's contact info etc. and went as far as to actually call him on the phone. Luckily, I had declared the actual price that I paid for the car and they let us go after speaking with the seller. A word of warning to an other Canadian's thinking of importing a car...TELL THE TRUTH They told me that they do this with everyone now and had confiscated 6 Corvettes in the last 2 months for tax evasion.

I just picked up four correct DC rally wheels and restored trim rings and NOS caps. These wheels and a set of red line radials will be on the car in the Spring. I plan on giving the car a good cleaning and replacing anything necessary to get the car ready for the local cruise night scene. That little L79 is one sweet motor and I can't wait to take my kids out once the snow is gone. Although I really wasn't looking for a small block Corvette, I really like the way this car is optioned and appreciate the remarkable unrestored condition...so, I won't be trading this one for the '67 Z-28 any time soon
Mark

Mark... That is one pretty Coupe you got there.
I have not forgotten about that PM, just have not had time to write it.
Good luck with the Corvette... May I insist NCRS BowTie or Survivor Judging?

The L-79 is one of the greatest motors I have ever had the chance to drive! It is an early Hi-Po SBC!

Very Nice Score and Find Mark! I have always had a thing for Vettes from the 60's. One day I will own one, and hopefully it will be in as good as shape as yours.
