An opportunity has come up for me to purchase one of those long stashed away rare Muscle Cars that I’ve bugged the guy about selling for many years… but I’m short about $100K of play money. I decided to try a quick offering of the least valuable/most expendable of my Cudas and Corvettes (1970 Barracuda/Cuda and 1966 Corvette 427/425 roadster, both are ongoing projects) to see if there are any serious buyers out there. I am only willing to sell one car, but both are definitely available until one sells or until I scare up some extra cash from another source….. I consider you guys serious car enthusiasts and collectors, so these are only going to be mentioned on this site, no other sites or Ebay games to play here. I will list them in two separate listings to avoid discussion confusion….
Finish this project or I can complete it for you (at additional cost, of course): 1966 Corvette 427/425 HP Convertible, Nassau Blue / Dark blue leather interior / original black plate California car ( I purchased in 1998 from 2nd owner) matching numbers throughout, 56,287 original miles, two tops, Teak, Tele, Side Exhaust, Tinted glass, Hazard warning lights, Power brakes (J56), Power windows, 4.10 posi, M21, T.I., Power steering, AM/FM with power antenna. Some docs and car has local S.F. bay area history. Without going into extensive detail, here is the current status: Body is off the frame, final paint completed in July 2006, misc. assembly of trim is underway prior to body drop. Paint job is excellent and color matched to the still unfaded original paint hardtop. Body was excellent with perfect alignment/gaps prior to paintwork (body on and off the frame multiple times to get perfect fit with correct factory shims). Frame/drive train was completely rebuilt/restored. Frame was perfect - no rust or damage issues to deal with. In my quest to duplicate factory assembly processes, many suspension parts were left unpainted/bare metal as original. Of course, within a few months they developed that surface rust/haze that is bugging the heck out of me, so my plan is to re-do some of the cosmetic restoration on the frame/drivetrain, etc. before the final body drop. Loads of excellent condition factory original parts for this car and NOS duplicate parts as well (i.e., original side exhaust and complete NOS system as well, original wire harnesses in excellent condition (all) and NOS (all), original dark blue dash pads and NOS, original and NOS glove box door, original white soft top still untouched on frame along with NOS soft top and repro correct dated soft top covers and NOS weather-strips, etc., etc. Lots of work already done: gauge cluster fully restored, seats restored to perfection (original excellent seat covers also included), rechromed original grill, rechromed console, headlight motors restored, etc. Still some work not yet done, although most parts are in excellent condition: radio untouched, teak untouched, tele column not yet restored, power window motors/regulators untouched, radiator tanks removed from center core, etc. Obviously there is much more detail to discuss, but knowledgeable enthusiasts get the basic concept at this point. I started out with just wanting to repaint the car two years ago and did my usual while-you are-at-it carried away body off resto….. It’s a disease…. I haven’t added up my “investment” in this car to date (haven’t spared any expenses along the way) and I really don’t want to know how much I have spent…… This wasn’t being built to be sold. Excellent question Paul ! And to answer some others as well:
I should have been much more clear about these things in my description because they are very important details that affect the value and desirability of these cars: Docs: What I have is basically misc. old registrations, insurance cards and service records/parts receipts that help show some history. Based on some of those, the previous owner had the car in 1978 and perhaps earlier, but I don't know exactly when he purchased it. He passed away in 1998 and I bought the car from his estate. His sister gave me info on the car's history but I don't have anything that I consider legit (paperwork-wise) to back it up so I just take it as good story material. Unfortunately, I do not have a window sticker or POP, etc. to absolutely document this car or any of it's options. Where's the original black license plate?: After two years of fighting/arguing with our wonderful Ca DMV, I lost the battle and had to give them up. Since this was an estate purchase and I did not have a signed off title from the (dead) owner, they made me "upgrade" to relectorized plates. I do have old docs that show the "R" series black plates assigned to this vehicle prior to my ownership. As far as add-on options are concerned: I chose to restore the seats with leather covers (my favorite), but still have the factory vinyl covers that came off the car (which matches the trim tag). The J56 brakes were from one of my other 66's and did not come on this car. Everything else was on this car when I bought it. Wheels: Yes, those are repro K.O's currently on the chassis but I have the stock steels wheels, NOS hubcaps, and the original Goodyear Goldline spare tire for this car. Restamps: In this day and age of restamps, I doubt every car and part I see out there, even some of the documented ones. If I was more knowledgable, I might be able to verify/authenticate the stamped numbers on all the components. I can absolutely state that this engine, trans, rear diff, etc. were all in the car when I bought it and I can provide pictures to serious parties of the numbers so they can make their own determination. What the previous owner did in the 20 plus years he had the car I can't say, but most everything I removed from the car seemed to be coming off for the first time. I purchased the car for a very good price and really didn't care about those details back then. If the guy was alive today, I'd be pounding on his doorstep right now for more info.... FYI, car was built in St. Louis in November of '65 so it's not a 450HP version. Sorry for the ramblings, but I don't want to waste your time or mine or mislead anyone due to lack of info. Sorry, but for some reason I hesitate to post the exact VIN for the world to see (latent paranoid tenancies I believe is what they told me....).
I will say it's in the 1067XX range so that narrows it down to a choice of about 99 numbers to choose from.... A potential new owner might not want the VIN of this car advertised (some collectors are very particular). If you have any info on cars in that range that might apply to mine, I'd be happy to hear about it!
