A buddy of mine has a 65 GTO hardtop tri power that he has owned for the last 20 years. A few years back he took the entire car apart with the thoughts of doing a restoration. He has the Pontiac PHS paperwork showing it is an original tri-power. He has been collecting parts for her for years. When he bought the car the tri-power setup was gone. He has since purchased a tri-power for it. I think he has the matching numbers 389, not sure though. The metal is in good condition and in primer. The parts are in his basement and the car has been under a tarp in the driveway in New Jersey. He takes the tarp off every six months or so to clean off the leaves.
What do you guys think this project is worth? I know I have not provided all of the details but I am looking for a ballpark estimate. He also has some nice Ram Air heads and a few other goodies!!

Going off recent auction and sales, a nice restored 65 hardtop with original Tripower engine are selling for about 28-35K, 4sp cars are at high end. (Full concourse restored can be much higher)
Rough guess at a completely apart project 5K to 10K. Low side if the engine is not correct with rust issues and parts scattered. High side if he has all parts, body has no rust and parts are all correctly tagged with what they are and where they go. The parts he collected could also add value dependent on what they are and if they are used, NOS, or repop. It will be worth the most if he at least puts it together. An all-apart project turns most restorers off. You can never be sure what is missing and trying to ship everything can be a real hassle and expensive. As far as RA heads and the misc. No RA heads in 1965, but if they are later, then it depends on the casting and date. Post the raised code over the exhaust or some pictures. |

------Over the years I have bought many projects that were started and left unfinished. All the sellers to a person swore all the parts were there. I believe probably 60% to 70% really thought the parts WERE there. The rest knew better. But, trust me, all the parts were never there, not once. Go into any project car deal with the idea that all the parts are not there no matter what anyone tells you........Bill S

Well... the car is still sitting in the driveway... my buddy is now at the point of it is getting moved or he will sell it. I am a bit torn. I would love to be a part of the restoration but who knows if he will ever get to it. Might be time for it to find a new home.....
