Wondering about the 67-8 Camaro repop shifters by OEM.
Do they look, fit and work like factory originals? Thanks for hands on experience Gents.

I would sure hope that they work better than the original Muncie shifters. Mine certainly was garbage, and that is being kind. Our '72 Lemans Sport had a factory Hurst shifter. These were a slightly cheapened version of the shifter you could buy from Hurst through a speed shop. Ours was still working fine with over 90K miles on the car.

The last two I put in and I have tried a few times, they went across the shop floor and the handels were cut off and attached to a hurst clusters so the dam things would shift. So in short they look wonderful but shift like crap but maby its just me. I have tried one in a Camaro and another in a Elcamino and both were bad news, the good thing is the handels look great after you cut them off and weld them to a hurst.

Bought one for my Nova, locked up several times. Junked it and bought a Hurst. Chevy 2 Only sells an adapter to bolt on your Muncie handle. About $13.00. Good luck! Ron...

The guys that rebuild shifters claim that the repro stuff is not properly hardened like the original parts.

Seems to me that I remember that possibly National Parts Depot
may have had a Muncie handle married to a Hurst shifter body for sale. See if you can find it online. It's really hard to understand why GM would put the Hurst in the Firebird, GTO, Camaro, Vette, but not the Chevelle or Nova. ![]() I've heard the explanations before, but an LS-6 Chevelle with a Muncie shifter. GM - ![]() Nuch

When we bought our 396 car, it already had a Hurst Competition Plus that, as it turns out, was installed by the original owner. The handle came straight up and curved at the top. When I put the seat forward for my short legs, it interfered with the handle in second and fourth. I adapted a bench seat Muncie handle to the shifter and have been happy ever since. Looks correct and shifts nicely. I think that if you spray lubed the shift mechanism once a year, a Hurst shifter would last a life time. Gotta love quality products.
