Default No more Yenko Honda

In case you haven't already heard...the former Yenko Honda of McMurray, PA...has been taken under new ownership and is now being called South Hills Honda.

While Yenko Honda had no real ties to the Yenko family...it is my understanding that the owners had purchased use of the name years ago, after moving into Yenko's old route 19 location, for the purpose of keeping customer loyalty in the South Hills market. Now that the dealership is under new ownership...the Yenko name has been dropped, and will no longer be used in conjuction with new car marketing.

While it's not big news to the Supercar hobby...it is yet another page of the Yenko's history book being turned, and it also unfortunately marks the first time in decades that the Yenko name has been absent from the Pittsburgh market.

I can't help but think the new owner can't possibly appreciate what for some, went along with that name...

Here's to you DFY

Glad to see the change. Honda/Yenko should never said in the same breath

Don Yenko actually bought into the Honda franchise in 1981/82, So the history of the Yenko/Honda relationship originates with the man himself, and dates back over 25 years. Yenko also owned Porsche, Audi, and Fiat franchises...

Like it or not, Yenko's name is legitimately associated with alot more than Chevrolets.

End of an era regardless..

Honda or not, who's calling them for the signage...may be too late already?.

And actually, Don did some really cool stuff with the early Civics. I know these were briefly discussed on the site a while back.

My Son, who would love to own a convertible E-Body Mopar but owns several really nice Honda CRX's at this time, flipped when I showed him the Yenko affiliation with the Honda Civics. I dug through the archives and found several magazines with the modified Yenko Honda parts ads in them.

Since he is now a very successful loan officer for Chase, I wouldn't be surprised to see him duplicate one of these some day. Heck...his "show" Rex ended up as a full-on rotisserie job with a 300+ horsepower 4 cylinder under the hood!

I've already spoken with the new owner personally...the Yenko letters from the building as well as any promotional materials like plate frames and stuff like that have all been retained by the former owner as part of the deal. The name apparently meant quite a bit to him as well.

You might say that. He was with Don for years, Raced with him and helped design the 81 Yenko Turbo Z's.. I say they knew each other. One year one the way to the sYc reunion wew stopped at Yenko Honda to show Kim Mason what we and the crew were taking to the reunion. To say we shut the place down for a while is an understatment...BKH
