No other factory delivered Chevy had a mechanical tach drive that I know of. You Yenko guys can answer better than me about their usage on Yenko cars. Seems to me that the Yenkos I have seen have all had electric tachs, though. The ball-bearing L88 style tachs were fine pieces, but even the Corvette ones had blank vacuum advance cans on them. I always wondered why they were on there...Bill S

Bill, L88s had no vac advance??? I think this is a OTC part, not a vette production part either .

Hi Bill,
For the most part you are correct, with 1 exception. ZL-1 Camaros used the exact same 1111927 TI distributor as the 69 L-88 and ZL-1 Corvettes. These distributors were equipped with the mechanical tach drive which goes unused on Camaros. These distributors also had 373 part# non functional vacuum cans. Assembly line vacuums had a hole where the nipple would be and later replacements had the bump on the front. Have had a bunch of these distributors over the years. The 263 Ball bearing dist. on ebay was as the add explains an over the counter race only unit.
The only purpose the blank or non functional vacuum unit had on the production dist. was to locate the breaker plate on the 3 different L-88 distributors that used them.

-----Thanks Chris! Did the factory bother to put a gear in the bronze fitting as delivered in a ZL1??? Im surprized that Chevrolet didnt develop an aluminum distributer with the ball bearing set-up. Seems like it would have been easy and a win-win type deal.........Bill S

You're welcome Bill, I would assume so as I would think they would want to keep foreign matter out of the distributor. Every 927 I have had was complete with the tach drive parts and as I'm too young to have been playing with these cars when they were new I can only speculate.
You're right about it being too bad Chevrolet never offered a ball bearing distributor in a production piece , be it an aluminum housing or the cast version as these were rugged units. Would have been cool even if Chevrolet offered T.I. in the LS6 as when I spin one of these on my old Sun distributor tester, they are pretty impressive! No point scatter to worry about.

that 1111263 TI distributor had a list price somewhere around $1600.00

Bill the one on ebay is not my distributor. I do not want to sell mine as it was on my car when it ran the record at the Detroit drag strip in May 1969. A memeber wanted to buy mine when I posted the three of them a while back.

Actually, the magnetic pulse transistorized distributor set-up was standard equipment on an LS6; 1971.

I wasn't even thinking about the 71 Corvette LS6 when I made my post. I tend to have 70 LS6 Chevelle on the brain. You are 100% correct.
