This is an update for the Camaro, Chevelle, and Nova cars.
1965 through 1972 for Camaro, Chevelle
https://www.chevymuscledocs.com/
Historical Document Services
1965-1972
BEGINS MAY 1
National Corvette Restorers Society is pleased to announce that we can now provide certain information for model years 1965 through 1972 for Camaro, Chevelle and Nova through the efforts of the NCRS and permission granted by General Motors. We believe our fellow hobbyists and car clubs have desired this information since it became available for Corvettes several years ago.
The information consists of the dealer code, dealer name, dealer location and the production date the car was produced. The good news is this may allow you to find the original dealer where your Chevrolet Camaro, Chevelle or Nova was shipped and possibly open the door to finding more information about your Chevrolet.
A Camaro, Chevelle or Nova Shipping Data Report can be ordered only online. Membership in NCRS is not required. The fee will be $50 payable by credit card or PayPal. You will receive via USPS a letter with the information which includes the NCRS official seal. In limited cases the dealer code is not available or readable and in this case a full refund will be made.

I think a lot of cars will be "exposed" with this new information.
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Fast67VelleN2O</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I think a lot of cars will be "exposed" with this new information. </div></div>
I keep hearing this but do not see why. The way I read the press release the document will not contain build information, just shipping info, such as selling dealer. I doubt it will "expose" a hand full of cars, as except for the few so called "supercars dealers", why would anyone lie about the selling dealer?
I do think it is a positive though, as many car enthusiasts are curious where their cars were sold new, and for the supercars, not all dealer records are available, which left the NICB as the only source for such information, which few folks can access. IMO, as this service moves forward, we will see the number of documented supercars increase.
Then the only debate will be how was it equipped/modified.

Awesome! I am curious where my 68 came from. According to my title it had quite a few owners in a short period of time from late 1967 to 1984 when I purchased it. Just purchased my 64 in December from the original owner with all docs, window sticker, and other records so I know where thats been. Happy, Happy, Happy!

The shipper info provides the details of the dealer the car was originally shipped to from the factory, which may not necessarily be the final selling dealer. The debate about cars being exposed by this information assumes that very few cars would have been dealer-transferred beyond a limited radius of the original receiving dealership back in the day, and therefore some owners of high dollar cars that have had expertly-prepared documentation may be surprised by the conflicting details provided by NCRS.

"The shipper info provides the details of the dealer the car was originally shipped to from the factory"
So this info would match the dealer info on a build sheet because the build sheet has the original dealer that ordered the car first, which I think most people will be looking to match up to when ordering this document.
Lots of owners with fake build sheets will not match this document which will stir many red flags for them <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/mad.gif
I will be ordering one to just ad another document that further confirms the dealer on my original build sheet and POP <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

I hear what you are saying Jim. By itself this doc will not definitively validate a car, but it can be used as a building block toward establishing provenance in conjunction with other car information/documentation/stampings/owner history/ original photos etc.

I believe there is an order number on the shipping paperwork that should match a number on the build sheet. They can validate the build sheets that way. They are not making public the order numbers. This should help things.

Sure wish they would have brought the years on the Nova up to 74.
I think this is a great step up for the hobby & really commend all involved.
Wondering if the NCRS is holding onto the contact information from everyone that inquires about a vehicle?
Could see that as a possible help to those in the future if a question mark is raised on the heritage of their vehicle.

The point of my comment is the current owner will be upset (Who did not make the FAKE Build Sheet), not the Dealer or Last owner before him that made the FAKE build sheet. I don't think he will re make another fake build sheet, I think he will look into hiring a lawyer to sue the Person or Dealer that sold him the car with FAKE documents. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

Pretty sure it will show Yenko as the dealer because Yenko actually sold the cars to the dealers in his network, and listed the cars on the 'Delayed Floor Plan' sheets with GMAC.

OK guys, now starts the pleading, please be patient as we roll this system out. You won't get your answer tomorrow but you will get it hopefully sooner than later. with the Corvette data which we are still processing we average around two weeks. Because of vacations and business travel sometimes it gets delayed and is closer to thirty days.
To answer a lot of speculation yes down the road we will offer a second service much like the document validation service for the Corvette world.
It will be different but for some years some plants we will be able to validate original GM paper.
For some years some plants we will be able to identify the cowl tag as containing the correct body identification number which we can link to the vin, that wont stop someone from running a repro cowl tag on you if they know that number, but it will stop cowl tags from being swapped.
Be patient we are still testing that information.

Unfortunately it appears it was the final assembly plants responsibility to report the stuff, our records are more of a central office nature however so keep your fingers crossed. with the corvette stuff we have found information on about 93% of the requests. There will be holes, it came from microfiche some of it will be damaged and some of it will be missing its inevitable. Obviously if information is not available you will get a refund.

From NCRS
We are missing the following data:
1969 Camaro 9N508855 to 9N587275
1970 Chevelle made in Atlanta, Seventh digit would be A.
NCRS does not anticipate nor have we been authorized to offer any additional GM brand information.

You should not assume this data is NICB, we have had numerous instances where the GM record is different than that received from NICB on the corvettes we have processed

That is what I was told on a 1967 years ago. I had it checked three different times by locals with no records found. Had the US DOJ in a FOIA tell me there were "no records". Later we found a person higher up within the NCIB that did a hand search of the microfiche and the record was recovered. I am not saying they have them all (there may be gaps) but they likely have most of them.

I was told that cars that started its life as race cars were not insured and did not end up in the NICB records.
I bet the cars were insured between GM and delivery to the dealer. Heck, only a few dealers actually owned the majority of their inventory so they were probably insured for enough time to have a record- even cars which were not insured at the time of sale (if that was possible).

I do not know the process NICB had if the information became Submitted when the car was sold or if they became Submitted when the car was manufactured.
There will be two 69 Yenko who is not in the NICB, which went as Race Cars, ive been told.

I received mine today #32 & 34 yes!!!!!, well sort of. I now have the zones, but the dealer info is limited.
Car 1 provided Zone 15 Dealer 339, but dealer name and address records are insufficient.. So if anyone has info on that zone and dealer it would be appreciated. Produced 9/8/69
My other car is zone 11 Dealer 372 and list dealer as Max Meyers Motors in Middlebury , IN. Now when I go to their data base and plug the #'s its show McManus Chevy, Chicago , IL 1970. Produced 4/2/69
I really appreciate the information, but for me the dealer info is inconclusive. Thanks again Roy, and good luck to others searching for dealer info.
BTW if anyone else has info on the zones listed above, I would appreciate that.

Got both my reports today the 1968 Nova came back as Wallace Chevy just like on the broadcast sheet. Production date 7/8/168 dealer code 327 zone 35. The 1970 came back as GK Chevy in Downers Grove, Ill. don't know if this means was dealer trade from there or not since it was converted at Nickey Chevy since these are supposed to be dealer where they were shipped to from factory. Production date 11/13/1969 dealer code 227 zone 11.

I believe you will find dealer zero in zone 12 is the zone office. In other words a car going to dealer 0 in zone 12 was initially billed by GM to the Zone Office this happened for many reasons most typically because someone in the zone was assigned the car to use, however cars were billed to zone offices for other reasons also.

</div></div>thanks Roy. The zone office is effectively the dealer, when it went to the frist dealer it was a used car.

That's cool it was from the Buffalo zone. Typically, the zone office was the charge to dealer and the car was shipped to a local deal for the new car prep work. Usually were cars ordered by zone reps or owners of dealers. If the file on your car showed zone 12, dealer 0....then are these records actually the dealer (location) charged instead of where it was shipped? (Most were the same)
Not sure I've ever seen a car shipped directly to the zone office as per the docs.

Van T was dealer 887 in zone 5.
I'm not sure how they officially confirm the exact production date but June 19,1969 correlates with my trim tag 03733 which comes out to the 373rd car built on the 3rd day of the week, Wednesday, June 18th.
Pretty cool.

My old 71 Judge was a factory show car. I had two factory to dealer invoices. The original one showed the Pontiac zone office in Jenkintown, PA as the bill to or dealer. When you run the PHS report now and get a copy of the invoice it showed Ted Rapp Pontiac in NJ as the bill to dealer. If the original owner and other owners did not keep that document I would have never known that. The buildsheet showed the zone office as well. What was really cool was that the buildsheet in machine print stated tag for Detroit / Atlantic City Auto shows. So from my experience with a Pontiac GM did change the information when the Zone office car was sent or bought by a dealer.

There was a GM Overseas Division based out of New York City or that area. I think they had offices in multiple areas but the main one was in NY. I had a pop from a 67 Balto Chevelle and the dealer stamp was from the NY office and the owner lived in Wisconsin. I've seen a Chevelle build sheet that was charged to the same office then shipped to a dealer in the tri-state area. It's quite possible the info they gave you was who the car was charged to but it may have been shipped to a NJ dealer.

Well the car was probably originally driven by some executive then after 3K miles or so, the car was offered to a local dealership that sold it to "the first retail owner". Maybe that owner moved 6 hours away.

I believe due to a strike the LOS plant stopped production prior to June of 69, so the Norwood plant would have been the only source. I know of many Norwood built cars sold in California in the June time frame. I have the specifics of why and when the Los plant shut down somewhere.

Steve, My Car is actually one of the 900 or so, LA strike cars (built after the strike ended with parts on hand). The TT is 05A and in my research, I had figured mine would be close to the front when they restarted the plant sometime in June. The 6/23/69 ship date proves this. I would be surprised if an order by a serviceman would have been held up a month by the strike, when they could have sourced it from NOR, but stranger things could have happened.
If you have more info on the strike you wish to share, it would be much appreciated.

Drew, thank you I just received a second confirmation that my was delivered to Jay Chevrolet. Now I do feel like a 10 year old kid on Christmas morning. The search continues for me and all my fellow passionate enthusiast seeking delivery and ownership history on their cars.
My understanding is that zones and dealer # changed rather routinely for a variety of reason so its critical that you tie the delivery date with the zone and dealer information. A good example is my Indy Pace Car produced on 4/2/69 shipped to zone 11 Dealer 372, Max Meyers Chevrolet, IN and this same zone and dealer # changed in 1970 to McManus Cheverolet, IL. I'm learning like everyone else but it appears as zone reps changed and/or were promoted their territories changed which affected the zone and dealer #'s.

That is the database I've used for years. In fact I just input the two dealerships with zones I received yesterday. Unfortunately that database has no controls that I'm aware of, so there could be data accuracy issues. Take for instance someone buys a car with a fake buildsheet and the new owner enters the data from the sheet. Well now the database has been corrupted. With that said I've used it for years and find it very useful, but be aware the data is not perfect.

This forum is the BEST. Now, many can use this technology to "track down" history on their cars. If our forum didn't exist, I may have never caught the attention of BWAG, a member here, who ordered, worked for and spent most of the time in "his" Camaro's seat when it represented Schmidt Chevrolet in Ohio. It nice to able to pick up the phone and chat with the original owner and find out things like what was the weather on the day of its delivery!!
Thanks Bob. You're the best.

I received my NCRS document today and my 1970 Daytona Yellow Chevelle LS6 came from these guys:
Celozzi-Ettleson Chevrolet
Elmhurst, Il.
Zone 11 Dealer 108
Does anyone remember this car from this area/dealer?
I've talked to Mike Ettleson, the son of Maury Ettleson and he's going to ask some "old timers" if they remember the car.

Hello Steve,

Jay Chevrolet
301 South Burntmill Road

I can not tell you this is the same information for the year of 1969.

</div></div> </div></div>
</div></div>
I just spoke with the original owners son(I've been trying for 8 years). The car was in fact purchased new at McManus Chevrolet. The good news is he mentioned that he has original documentation and pictures from the day his dad brought it home. His father bought as a birthday present for his mom. Not sure the logic; who buys there wife (115lbs) a 396 4spd Indy Pace without power steering. The car only had 29K miles when they sold it in 1990 and now has 32K.

Would these NCRS records be the ones that have circled around in the rumors for 25 years. You know the ones that has said that there are GM records available somewhere...

For a couple of weeks I travelled all over southern Ohio to different Chevy dealers and one of them was Langs as I had heard they were a performance dealer, and they definetly were. Of course, I never managed to buy a 67 then, but I did see my first 396/375 67 Camaro. It was white with a black gut and had both headers and an extra complete 4:56 gearset in the trunk (right from the factory). Not one other option! Id love to know where that one went. That's when I figured they were right about Langs being a performance dealer. Well,,,that and about 15 Corvettes and other assorted Chevy muscle everywhere. Great, great dealership!!!!!!!!!.........Bill S </div></div>
Cool story Bill... Was it common for guys your age to be hunting new Corvettes? I must have been focusing my attention at the wrong things when I was younger.LOL </div></div>

VWs were great transportation for broke college kids as I was. My $700 '75 lime green fuellie beetle always got me home safe. Who needs a floor or heat without exhaust fumes anyway.

I don't believe so Jan.
The GM rumor docs were reported to have more details showing options, color & trim.Carbon copies of the build sheets,P-O-P & window stickers.

Besides paper copies of anything, I've always hoped that microfilm records would eventually be found for US cars like what the Canadian built or delivered info is gleaned from.
What made me more hopeful is Dave M. shared some GM internal Z16 info once which looked much like the Canadian microfilm, so is it known absolutely yes/no if GM ever made microfilm records for US delivered cars...regardless of whether any is known existing today or not?
What does the PHS group use to provide their service, old paperwork or microfilm?

Back in 86-87 I spoke to a guy that someone told me to call about this supposed Judge I bought. IIRC it may have been Tommy Shaw?, I THINK he was a mag editor back then. He told me to contact Pontiac Public Relations with the VIN and just a few weeks later I got a microfish copy of the build sheet confirming it was a Judge. It was printed out on what looked like the same paper on a roll that was used on the old fax machines and just a tad fuzzy but very readable. This was before PHS I believe. I wonder if that is where PHS got their documents.
