The magnetic switch was early in the mail and waiting for me after work today so I had to install it and test it. 1st “On” / Low speed, 2nd “Hi” speed, 3rd “Off”/park. The washer pump tested good too. The white doo-dad in the video is the switch that I replaced and it releases and latches the drive shaft that connects to the wipers. Brilliant Rube Goldberg! :hmmm: :naughty: :D

It’s been 17 days since an update. I’m afraid this thread has been declining ever since it started, so really, the only thing to do is to sell me the car, and rather cheaply, that way it prevents me from writing anymore horrendously long run-on sentences that your Elementary School teacher told you was not proper English, about a mean looking Day 2 Chevelle that even a non-GM car owner like myself could easily add to his fleet and take all the credit for the work done. You’ll be hearing from my “people department” soon regarding my lucrative offer. :scholar:
Nice work Samminator!!!

Thanks! I am using a Mallory “Rev-Pol” coil and double life (2 sets of points w/ 4 lobe cam) distributor. This version of the YC-310 HP distro uses 2 of the “trash can” style condensers each with a bit more oomph than the stock single condenser installed by GM. Also, each condenser feeds each set of points independently which for the day may have meant better performance at higher revs (charging time increased for each condenser prior to discharge).
As I did with my ‘70 Nova, I created a detachable mounting plate for the Mallory coil and resistor so as not to alter the firewall by using existing fasteners.

I had a chance over the long weekend to get things dialed in, buttoned up and was able to run the engine for several periods of time (drove it too!). My headers transitioned to a brighter yellow color and stayed that color. Of course I hoped they would stay orange but the yellow color will work for me. The finish is stable and is not breaking down or flaking. So, all things considered, I am a happy camper!

Rich - 1st time I had them coated they turned brown/black on first firing and then flaked off there after. They just were not done at all correctly. Only issue so far with this current coating is a change to yellow and the coating is very strong and apparently durable so far. It is uniform in color although the collectors are still orange. I am good with this at this point - it looks good in person - check it out at MCACN!

Next little project is to “restore“ the towbar. The original owner’s (Wayne) way to get to the track in the early years was to tow with his dad‘s 66 Ford short bed. I wanted to maintain the original look of my tow bar so I cleaned and derusted (with Metal Rescue) first followed by a light rub down with quad ought steel wool, and then finished off with a coat of Johnson’s paste wax. If room permits I’ll attach the towbar to the tabs at the show. Here is how they turned out ...

Hey thanks Freddie. Nice to finally put a face with a (user) name!!
Yes, I did get my paint analyzed at MCACN. Mike Ardito is Dana Mecum’s car collection care taker (and uber restorer) and his friend did a good (given the environment we were in) visual and paint gauge analysis of my paint. Although I thot I had more original paint, it is a relief to finally know more exactly how much there actually is. He reported to me that I have “60% or more” original paint. All horizontal surfaces (hood, roof, rear deck, fender and door tops), door jambs, hinge areas, and generally all areas above side stripes are original. The 2nd owner in his words “reshot the rocker panels” with single stage paint back in the early 90s - well that demarcation actually extended up to the level of the side stripes.
Thanks to Steve Shauger for hooking me up with Mike Ardito to do my paint analysis!
In general, I like the blemishes and imperfections of my original paint - it tells a story!!! By the way, Woj and I had fun working on our original paint prior to this show....and Meguiars 7 is our new go-to product!!!!!!

Yeah, you got that right Eddie. I had no problem hooking up my tow bar and displaying my racing trophies and posters in front of the car. I personally thanked Bob more than once when there wasn’t a wall of humanity 10 people deep surrounding him with all of the responsibilities he has with pulling off such a intricate, world-class car show. Woj and I really loved our location in addition to the extra room we had. We were located next to the three hottest attractions at MCACN: 1. Steve’s Vintage Certification 2. The Snack Bar. 3. On the way to the restrooms!
BTW, does anyone recognize this truck driver? She took our cars back to Ohio. She’s not the same driver that brought our cars out to the show! :hmmm:

Last MCACN, Tony Karamitsos of Auto World talked to me about the possibility of replicating my Chevelle for the Cars of MCACN series of 1/18 Auto World die cast cars. He and another guy took a bunch of photos of my car, but I didn’t hear anything until Bob A. contacted me in July that Tony wanted to move ahead. I plan to surprise the OO with his own model - so far I don’t think he knows about it! :naughty:

Thanks Rich and Happy Turkey Day - glad you dig it! I got mine recently and think it is pretty cool :cool2:! I’ll post here once a year whether I need to or not. :hmmm:
Back in June, I was skimming a new FB page that I had joined, “GM Chevrolet Memorabilia”. Saw some of the guys were from Southern VA area so I posted a photo of Wayne, the OO, getting his keys from Wickline Chev’s salesman and a bit about the car. First off, Wayne’s buddy, Mike Saunders, chimed in and introduced himself (Wayne told me about him years ago) - he ran a ‘68 L89 Camaro around Roanoke streets/tracks and influenced Wayne to a get a solid lifter BB for his Chevelle. Then a fellow in the Roanoke area, George Frye chimed in.
“I have some paper work about each of the new and some used cars sold by Wickline Chevrolet in 68 69 70 71 72 and maybe some other years.”
Got my attention!
The first doc is the original copy (yellow) of the order form that I got when I bought my Chevelle. The rest are the docs as George had them. The final doc is the original order form which now is with me in Dayton (51+ years after Wayne drove his Chevelle home)!

Only read the last few pages, but WOW, to have your car as the template for a die cast car and then come up with more original paperwork is beyond imagination.
And the sales price... $3,300 !! I know from being there, it was a large enough purchase at the time , but look what these cars selling for now. Houda thunk back then. I sure didn't, or I would've kept a bunch I ran hard and then sold for the next one.
I like the notation in the upper right corner for Potter...he got paid 10% of the sales price $33... Rather indicative of the wages back then too. Can you imagine a salesman getting 10% of a $60,000 vehicle today ?

And so nice of you to take the time to chime in for your annual check-up. And since it's now December again...may I extend the best of the holidays to you in case we don't see you back before then?
Love the docs and the story. Thanks for sharing.

On the original order form I am curious as to what the $3030.34 and the $5.50 below refer to. They are only showing on the original order form and not the customers copy. So, it is some internal business transaction. Could be dealer cost for the 1st number and maybe a bonus for the business manger for the $5.50???? :hmmm:

The document shown is a "car invoice"...a sales order would be a longer form that was typically filled in by hand. The invoice style you have for the car normally had all options/extras typed in the open area on the left. I sold a lot of business forms to dealers back in the day...and this is the first one I have seen with the options typed as shown. The dealer costs for options were normally displayed on a separate form that was part of the internal paperwork. Some dealers would attach a 'washout' sheet to the deal showing all cost and expenses related to a particular vehicle. It is possible the $3030 figure is the net cost...but I doubt it.
