There are hundreds of vids of people in Indian doing crazy dangerous stuff with little to no thought of safety.
I've owned trucks with split rim wheels and done many a repair/replacement of tires with no cage. A person just needs to respect what that wheel can do and take precautions.
Don't let Sherri look at this video until I put my new Michelin tires on the 49 Studebaker dump truck; original Firestone split rims. She keeps saying: "look, one of your friends told me they were nicknamed "widowmaker", right?"

I installed 7 "new" tires 11 years ago (used tires off a 3500HD dually pick up) and they are weather checked pretty bad.

Agree with Mitch. It really isn't that hard to make sure the lock ring is seated properly. I DO at least use criss-crossing heavy duty ratchet straps when inflating.
