Big money puts our politicians up for election. You vote for whichever one of their puppets you want. How about everyone boycotting a single brand for a year. That's something that would get someone's attention. The gas you don't buy on the 15th, you will buy on the 16th and probably in a longer lineup. Big oil could care less.
I like Carlin's idea of putting all immigrant in the armed forces first, then become citizens.

Not such a good idea. Much like the French, they would probably
surrender too quickly. Then where the hell would we be?

I we boycott one oil campnay ( gas ), that would probably
hurt the station owners the most. They don't set the price
for the most part. Once they get hurt financially, they
would fall. Then, the next oil company would be in a better
position to screw us even more due to even less competition.
See how this goes. Face it! We're screwed no matter which
way we go.

The majority of Fuel vendors are noe Corporate stores owned by the Oil Companies,at least here in Canada there are very few independents left. thes locations are also convenience stores,selling confections,lottery tickets and some staples. Who amongst us does not go into one of these stores after their $100.00 purchase of fuel and spend another $18.00 on average on lottery tickkets a pop and maybe a snack. This is where the Oil companies are making a huge margin.

SO HERE IS THE BOYCOTT PLAN!!!!

Stop making these purchases from these locations!! That will cut into their margin in a hurry. These are things you wont need the next day. Buy your lottery tickets at your independent corner store.
Dont buy snacks at all,you will feel better. Chevron Town Pantry charges $2.49 for a package of M&M Candies, local independent charges $1.99. compare everything and you will see the Gas Station/Convenience Store is 20 to 30% more.
Fuel is an escential, the other crap is not.

SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENTS!

Why doesn't Walmart sell gas? Or do they? I dont see pumps at their locations in Canada. This is the company that will never be undersold.

They know the pumps will ring just as much on May 15th as they do every other day of every year. They just laugh at this kind of thing because they know that gasoline is more addictive than heroin and us gas junkies aren't using any less no matter what the price is.

(I bought some Trick 101 pump unleaded for my Camaro last week at $6.25 a gallon and I didn't hesitate. Just stick the needle in, I mean NOZZLE, and start feelin' goooood.)

i don't think not buying gas on one day will do any good or send the correct message to the oil execs !! . you need to do this for a week or more to really get the point across to them .also what about gas sales on the 14th and on the 16th ,i bet you they'll increase on those days so the 15th really doesn't show a decline in usage !!

To not purchase fuel on May 15th is the equivalent of telling your parents you'll "hold your breath" when you were a kid. The demand will be there the day before and after the 15th. Some businesses are required to fill up every day, say for a trucking company or the guy hauling your '69 Camaro from Georgia to Arizona. What if he decides not to purchase fuel on the 15th and parks his rig in Florida for the day? Many retailers are independent companies that earn five to 10 cents per gallon. Someone pointed out that they make their profit on the inside sales including beer and cigarettes. This is true. If you want to hurt them, don't buy their inside stuff, they break even on the fuel at best after delivery costs and payroll. Look at what Wal-Mart sells their fuel for and you'll see the price many retailers pay wholesale for their fuel. Wal-Mart will use the fuel portion of their business as a loss leader, or to draw customers in or for the cash flow.
If you buy 20 gallons of fuel at a five cent per gallon profit, the retailer makes $1.00. If you buy a 12 pack, they may make three times that. The wholesaler (the big guys) make about 10 cents per gallon profit, we pay nearly 50 cents per gallon in taxes here in Texas, so the Federal and State Government makes five times what the wholesaler makes and does nothing. They don't find, refine, sell, or store the product, they just tax it. A wholesaler may make 10 cents per gallon and a retailer may make eight cents per gallon. If the retailer and wholesaler are the same entity (like all the Exxon stores in Austin) they may make 15 to 20 cents per gallon. If they gave it away for no profit, would the 20 cents make a big difference? All the fuel sold in Austin comes in from one pipeline from Houston, TX. The terminal is owned by Koch/Flinthills Marketing and it is piped in and the additives are added at the terminal to differentiate all the different brands. Unbranded fuel has no additives added to it. The fuel is sold on an exchange basis many times, it's all the same product regardless of if it is Shell, BP, Conoco, Exxon, Chevron or whatever. The additives distinguish the fuel form the competition.
It would not matter if you boycott a specific brand, if Exxon doesn't sell a drop, they sell their excess to BP and they sell it. Exxon makes their margin and you can't really make them feel the squeeze.
I don't know about you, but if need fuel on the 15th, I'll buy it.

Gas prices here in the Chicago burbs have risen 24 cents per gal in 5 days for the lowest grade of regular which is what most of us buy for our daily drivers. I just can't see how the major oil co's can justify this kind of increase. When is it going to end??? There's got to be something the american public can do, I just don't know what it is.

1. They don't have to justify anything.
2. It won't end. It may slow down occasionally but the trend is upward. (I think gas is still cheaper, adjusted for inflation, than it was in 1981.)
3. The American public can start riding bikes like the Chinese do, otherwise we have to buy gas for our vehicles.
