My old Chevrolet Power book (5th edition) lists and L-88 part number 3970699 as:
"Engine Asm., Partial 427, L-88, Open Chamber Design" "Engine asm. partial" was Chevy talk for a short block. Here is another thread where someone had the same short block for sale. https://www.yenko.net/forum/showthread.php?p=737591 If the naysayers need proof, I can scan that page in the book and post it here.... maybe. Not too tech savvy lately.

Hi....I agree with Lynn, they were available everywhere, even in Canada if you had the part number and the "right" connections

Here is the invoice for a L88 open chamber short block, part # 3970699, that I bought over the counter in 1971. No big deal, always had a couple in stock for the late model dirt trackers and street/drag racers.

I have the same engine assembly, I bought decades ago, from a dirt track racer's widow, still in the crate. We were going to use it in my Yenko Camaro resto but decided against it. Not sure when the L-88 assembly became available, the one I have is assembled with 512 block with a March of 71 date.

If you are talking about Facebook, there are so many ignorant people on there. I hate listing anything valuable on there because the idiots come out from everywhere to put it down. You can hide all of those comments if you want. Joe Barr doesn't allow them on his group. If you start talking bad about something in his group he will ban you.
