Charley;
Is there a similar yellow paint daub on the drivers side rear corner of the baseplate on the carb? I've had a number of unmolested `70 BB carbs in which all had a yellow daub, just wondering if the LT1 got it too.
Thanks.

It is amazing... just like what I am sure is a Chassis build sheet on the rear... like john Z said... all the sub assemblies subframe, rears, body, front sheet metal, etc... had build sheets taped to them, when the cars went together the sheets were supposed to be pulled off and disposed of...
They left so much on this one that if you threw a Just Married sign in the window, it would have been right at home leaving a church as an assembly line! BUT CAN I HAVE IT!!! PLEASE? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

Very nice find indeed. Observation: Looks like the deck lid emblem is mounted in a different position compared to where the stripes are on this car compared to the assembly manual stripe measurements and where the mounting holes are on the underside of the lid. Maybe the underside hole positions changed throughout the year on some lids for the emblem.
Phil may want to comment.

I have a question, if it was my car I cant decide what a guy does with it...
1- do you dust and vacumm the interior pump up the tires and leave it as is unfired and dusty under the hood and under the car and display it as is???
2- clean the interior and carefully clean under the hood and suspension and try to get things clean without losing anything and check things and fire it up and display it like that??
how far you thinking of going with it, charley

Amazing car Charlie, but I think it should be carefully cleaned. Its not Chevy dust for God's sake! I think the non-Chevy undercoating could be carefully removed to expose the amazing details underneath. Unfortunately the floor pans are black not Norwood red primer underneath. The benchmark car for sure, clean it back to showroom new!

Most would love to see it back on the road again, but it's a tough decision.
I only have experience with reviving one barn survivor car. A 7900 mile car that had been dormant for decades.
First was getting it running again. Not a big deal, made sure it turned over, oil change w/ 1qt of dex/merc. Clean the tank, lines, and rebuild carb. Plus plugs/points, and later the plug wires replaced. Once it got to temp, heater core was shot.
Hit the brake pedal, no go. Rebuilt master cylinder, no prob. But once the brake system built pressure, more issues. F-R hard line sprung leaks, wheel cylinders shot, and rear flex was clogged. That nice, new F-R brake line looks out of place, and the carb is a little cleaner than the rest of the engine, but it's back on the road running like a top.
Chuckle's car is probably better and would (likely) have less issues, but still a possibility. While a lot of the original stuff can be rebuilt, there's still a chance you'll have no choice other than to replace some things.
So I guess the question is do you roll the dice and hope everything will be okay, or possibly have to alter some of the originality in order to get it back on the road again?

To all interested, I helped develop the reproduction molded hood pad. I sold over fifty of them to the members at www.nastyz28.com (http://www.nastyz28.com) as well as a few here. I can also supply the correct metal clips for 70 and early 71's or the Round Plastic clips for late 71 (I can give cut-off) forward.
The "experts" on the hood pad subject dont agree completely on which models used the pad. We do agree that the RPO Z27 SS350 & 396 and RPO Z87 Custom Interior received the hood pad.
Randy Mitchell from this site (pictured above has a L.A. built std interior car that he replaced the worn OEM pad with a new one.....and now Charlie's L.A. built std int Z-28 shows the pad.
It would be very interesting to see/hear evidence of a 70+ NORWOOD Camaro Std interior (Non SS) receiving insulation!!!
Please report any FACTUAL info to my below Email, as it was not my intention to turn this thread into a Hood Insulation thread.
Thanks, Chuck

FYI, The above 5/8" x 1" oblong hole wheels were only made/used on Jan-early June 70 Z-28's, before changing to 13/16" x 1" holes on late June/July Z's, which stayed through the 1974 Model Year.
It wasnt until the reintroduction of Z-28 in 77' when the ROUND hole wheels came out.
Those correct plastic/metal tip air valve extensions are rarely seen on any restored Z-28
Previous picture showed better the RARE 1st design trim ring and very rare high crown stainless jacketed lug nuts.

When I workd at the Chevy dealer in '70, the 'long' water pumps used in '69-'70 had a very high failure rate. Could explain the clamp on the Z. Just a thought.

Not true. Each area had a dedicated repairman. Anything that wasn't done right could just be tagged and he would fix it while the car was still in the area or more major items could be corrected in repair bays after the rolls test.
This was just someone not doing their job. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
The 772 fan and the unstamped fan were functionally equivalent and were interchangeable. All depended on what was in stock in the plant.....

Great car for historical purposes! My L78 is an 01C car and has that same early rear view mirror mount. It sucks for trying to hold the mirror in place, but that looks correct. I ended up mounting a 69 style mirror from the ceiling for safety reasons and it didn't hurt the headliner at all so I'm happy for now. The stock 2 piece mount will start to banana over time and won't hold in place. The early 70 cars had that mount before they changed to the later style that lasted through most of the 2nd gens. I would leave that mount alone for now.

I've seen leather protective caps like this used on electrical sending unit contacts, connections & junctions to protect them from shorting out.Based on where you found it,I'm guessing maybe it came from something electrical on the firewall,an engine compt.light,or even the idle solenoid pot below.

Stefano, Charley and all, The fact that the mirror was missing when SOLD may be true........and evidently is part of THIS cars history.
I certainly hope that people dont take this one particular item and try to make some gospel from it......
Can anybody imagine buying a NEW car today, and driving it 1100 miles without a rear view mirror. WHY Norman would not have had this addressed is beyond all imagination.
At any rate its my opinion that EVERY 70+ Camaro left the assy line with its rear view mirror totally in place.
Somewhere between Norwood and Norman taking receipt of the car, the mirror and extension arm went AWOL........

Can anybody imagine buying a NEW car today, and driving it 1100 miles without a rear view mirror. WHY Norman would not have had this addressed is beyond all imagination.

Does someone have an explanation as to why the stripes on the deck lid don't go all the way to the window molding? I've seen many second gen Camaros and I own one myself, but I've never seen this before. Both the 1970 Camaro brochure, and the 1970 Camaro assembly manual show the deck lid strips going all the way up to the rear window molding. Charley, I am in no way putting your car down, I think your car was a great find and in the right hands, it's just that I've never seen this before and I'm curious as to the reason.
Charley
I'll bet the leather protection cap was used to cover over the NEG (Tach wire) terminal on the ignition coil.I've noticed a few there,& seen them more prevalent on Tach equipped cars, then ones w/o.

Randy, I have a lousy memory for these details........
but this stripe subject has been documented in detail at www.nastyz28.com (http://www.nastyz28.com) It a difference between Norwood and L.A. built Camaros.
PLEASE try searching in the ORIGINAL forum and hopefully you will find.
Thanks,

There are many examples of Van Nuys cars where the stripes stop short of the back window. There MAY also be issues with different stripe spacing.

I say start it, I think it would be a shame not to at least start up the old girl every now and then. Of course great care would need to be taken getting ready to fire again, but that goes without saying. It does seem this car couldn't be in better hands for the task!

tires ...3 had 13 lbs, 1 had 15 lbs. Means nothing but it is fun stuff for me since the orig owner and has brothers all swear they never added air to the tires. I brought them up to about 28 lbs and even sniffed some of that 1970 air. http://www.yenko.net/attachments/385754-tn_031.JPG
