These next 2 photos are of the same car, and me, first one in 1979, and the next is last year. I sold the car in 1991 and lost track of it. The current owner is a local guy, and he's painted it and removed the vinyl top. It now has a 427 in it.

I actually remember cars like this back in the day..not all Day 2 back then was good..one local guy had a 4 door AMC Matador jacked up just like that with N50's hanging out the back...it was actually a super clean car, low mile original paint car but he screwed it up.The car was immaculate but the concept was way off.

Is that a Motion decal in the driver's side rear window on that Chevelle?

04-02-2013, 04:14 PM
The Z28 is Burnished Brown. It was purchased from Chad B years ago and was discussed here as well. I think Chad actually sold it to Shane on an ad placed here.
Yes that is a Motion decal and the car and it's history are currently being researched. The second owner bought it from the original owner (who later bought it back and then sold it to Shane) and he was the one who put headers on it and raced it (and lost one of the build sheets!). We think the second owner maybe joined the Motion club but as of right now there is no reason to believe Motion ever laid hands on it. It is a low mileage original paint car and is in unbelievable condition. It was a known car for the last several years but the owner was asking way too much and Shane caught him on a good day.

A little late to the discussion but yes, stance is critical. So many restos these days have tippy-toes stances because of new springs during the restoration. Ruins it for me. Camaros were higher than Firebirds because DeLorean wanted the Firebird to look wider (wide-track Pontiac, right?) so he had lower springs put on them. I had my Camaro in the shop last fall for some much-needed attention and it included a suspension rebuild with new, lower springs. Out went the single-leafs and in went Global West multi-leafs with a 1.5" lowering built in. 1" lower front coils and now the car looks really good to me. Lower and meaner, even for a stocker. (Gardner 'deep-tone' SS396 system went on too--look at those perfectly done oval tailpipes peeking down under the rear quarters.)

I know it’s a Yenko clone but every time I look at the aluminum motor and listen to the idle it works for me. The factory black 73 Z/28 was all stock but the springs settled just right in my opinion. With the blue 70 L78 Nova I just stumbled on this combination of 15x7 TTO wheels and P225/70/15 tires in front and P255/60/15 tires in back that did not rub and made the car sit a little high.

Mustangs and Camaros seem to suffer most from tip toe "new spring" syndrome. I'm REALLY happy with the stance of the original GT springs on my '66 fastback on '65 Shelby wheels...

Wow Tom, that Mustang is a keeper. Or sell it to me.
I think it was Pat Ganahl who said there's one word to describe the perfectly done car: "Stance, stance stance!"

May be gone but I saw this below linked Astro LS6 advertised up here in Canada recently.
Don't know the car or what's real or not but may be worth investigating further?

The blue Shelby brings back memories.
A classmate in my HS still owns a 67/68? 428 Shelby convertible with 2 carb setup.. original factory yellow paint. Real Day 2 car-Sun gauges/ET slot mags, traction bars etc. His dad owned a auto wrecking yard and he worked there and he traded some cars(not wrecked) for it in the late 70's. Last time I saw it on the street was 1981 ish.. and he has no interest in driving it or bringing it out. Another guy saw it several years back when he went by and the garage door just happened to be up and it has boxes stacked on it ceiling high.
On a side note his brother had a 67/68 Shelby convertible small block car and was trying to sell it in the mid 80's and wanted some ungodly amount for it and was mad no one would buy it at the number so he put log in it and set it on fire..strange guy-true story...
In fact the whole family is batsh*t crazy. The yard was full of rare Mustangs and they were nice restorable cars at one time but now just junk. The yard is no longer in operation (EPA basically shut it down). it operated out of Eastern Ohio appalacian hill country. You had to walk on eggshells in the yard dealing with the owner..say one little thing wrong and he would literally kick you out. If he liked you he would sell you anything.
Guy was like the soup nazi.
They are still out there.

It is a 1968 Mustang Fastback that I restored back around 1978-1980, I used all original nos Shelby tail light panel and related parts, also a 1967 Shelby repro. hood to match the stock 1968 Mustang fenders. It was painted a candy color called regal blue. I sold the Mustang in 1982 along with my 1971 Z28 to get the down payment for my first house but I kept my 1970 Chevelle SS L78 which I still have.

There were two local guys here in Tennesse, Steve Bentley and Tex Scalf , who were the same way. One had an all Mopar junk yard and the other guy had a little bit of everything. Soup Nazi is a great way to describe them.

The coils had been heated and the leafs ruined as well. I rebuilt the front end and swapped in a multileaf rear suspension and raised the car quite a bit. I got rearended while waiting on a drawbridge and the Nova was totalled <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/no.gif

I'm almost computer illiterate, so adding stuff I used to own will be tough, and I'm down with back surgery recuperation. But, my signature pic is one of my favorites, not only 'cause it's mine, just because everything "fits". The wheels and tires that are on it now are about the same except I have Cragar SS on the rear.
Now, the Camaro on page # 30 carrying the wheels as the traffic in the opposite lanes appears to be just going about their business is the best!!!

By the way, check out the background, this was Capital in 1969, and several of Larson's, Dick Harrell F/C, The Shark,a lot of funnies. My car is next to what looks like HemiDart. That day must have been some special payout to have the likes of those guys there.

This thread is so full of awesome looking rides, from the sky high drag car look to the ready to pounce look they all look great.
I have always said the right stance and right wheels/tires can make or break the look of a real nice built car. I have heard mention that my car looks like a low rider......I like it myself and think the stance is killer, plus I have 4 different sets of wheels and tires to change up the look in just a few minutes time.

As fate would have it, nope <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/frown.gif.
Just after I got the `cage certified and harnesses installed, I was planning on taking it to Kil-Kare. I went to the local cruise-in the day before T&T (when it was at the Steak & Shake, before it moved to Company 7).
As I was coming home, the engine lost a roller lifter. I pulled it down, fixed the damage from that, buttoned it all back up, got it running again and in less than 30 minutes of run time it snapped the head off a valve.
I threw in the towel on the 572 at that point and built a mild 9-1 496 for it so I could sell the car. That 496 wound up running 6.50's @ 111 (in the 1/8 mile of course) with the car's new owner. That roughly translates out to 10-teens @ 130+. (FWIW, there was still no comparison between the 572 and the 496--the 572 would've mauled the 496)
He subsequently added a Vortech supercharger to the 496 and changed the cam. It ran 5.50's @ 135+ in the 1/8 afterwards. That roughly translates out to 8.60's @ ~160-ish.

Mmmm? A stance of another topic? What started out as a little cleanup under the hood, now my wife says," hon, I don't want to know how much $$' but will you stop rolling around under the Camaro? New brakes, new SS lines, new shocks sprayed semi-gloss grey, a correct US stamped NOS master cylinder, striped the rear to find a BX rear, a bunch of wire color corrections, a new 850 carb and new valve springs which should REALLY wake her up after 20 years of 700lbs of valve cycles....getting ready for June @ Carlisle.

Stance IS important.
So is camera angle.
Please ignore the paint. Has been polished in a couple places, wet sanded and unpolished in others, and still completely uncut in others.
Hoping to paint stripes this week, then sand the whole car and have it buffed.
The following 3 shots were all taken within seconds of each other. No changes made to the car. The car in reality sits 5/8 inch lower in the front. Factory Z/28 would sit .38 inch higher in the front (of course, the AIM calls ro +- .38, so who knows).
From some angles the car actually looks lower in rear, and some it looks way higher in the rear.
Original size tires on the car for now. I have the YH wheels for it, but these are FW. Still need to blast and paint the YH wheels.
BTW, I also like the stance on my old 306,000 mile bimmer in the back ground on shot #3.

The American Pride Camaro was commissioned by GM in the Summer of 2010. It is a 2011 Camaro and was a top secret project. It was painted at Mountain Muscle Cars in Cosby, TN. The project took about three months from start to finish. This car was the brainchild of Scott Settlemire from GM's Show car division.
Have you seen it and then paint detail reflective of those who fought for our freedom? Vietnam Vets with tears in their eyes, headstones on a hill from The Battle of Normaday, WWI and WWII and other flawless airbrushing. Pride of America has nothing to do with the car or Chevrolet; it does however reflect what these men and women gave to keep us free and to able to participate in free speech, like here.........

I had a couple conversations by e-mail with the guy. He bought it from his uncle when he was 16 years old. His Uncle (now deceased) originally bought the car at Berger and when he retired from the military eventually moved to California, taking the car with him. In 1977 he sold it to his nephew - the guy running the auction. It's been in Cali 35 years at least, but it's a Berger-bought car.

Oh, you're the Thought Police? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif So what if it's a patriotic paint job - does that automatically make it a Renoir? I don't get teary-eyed by random images of patriotism, and my opinion on an uninteresting paint job doesn't determine my level of patriotism either - it is silly!

The wheels on the front were just there as rollers because the others on the mags were flat when I got the car. I still have the tires though. Never thought I'd use them, but it sure would save me some bucks and bring back the old look. Those chrome wheels aren't reverses. They're actually optional factory 14x6s from '64 (yeah, Chevy actually did that)

Tire tech== Nylon tires flat spot.... Speedway Wide treads for Goodyear.
Polyglas (Polyester and Fiberglas) do not flat spot.
Bringing the temperature of the tire up (normal operation) will remove the flat spot. Of course, the fun way to remove this in the rear is to test to coefficient of friction between rubber and asphalt!!!!
