Don’t use them. Kept biting my tongue going over rumble strips in the concrete. Machined shock extensions up top give me the clearance. (Barely)

So if "cam comes in around 4500-5000", where do you shift it? how does it run down low?

juliosz

It runs about as good as any 427 with a ZL1 cam down low. Things start getting interesting around 4500 and I shift around 6500.

I agree Paul, a car needs to be exciting. The heads had quite a bit of port work.

I'm glad to see the original black plates back with the car...if I remember right, the plates are written on the front page of the protecto-plate.

On cars with radiused wheel wells it is pretty easy; at least in my opinion. Unless the car has "big and little" tires for drag racing, you just match it to the wheel wells. This guy came very close to perfect.

Thanks for the kind words guys. The knowledge on this site is 2nd to none. My 70 has 165,000 original miles on it, born with L34, T400, and 12 bolt posi. All have been rebuilt. Has the original green door panels, back seat and package tray, from 1970. All in excellent condition. The bucket seats, carpet, and head liner have been replaced. Build sheet was found glued on drivers door panel, and a GM Transit card was found under the carpet. Crazy thing is OO ordered this car gold with black interior from Wagner Chevrolet in Petersburg, WV per the original order form I have. While waiting he visited a chevy dealer in another town that had a green on green 70 SS 396 Chevelle on the showroom floor that he fell in love with. OO went back to Wagner and wanted to change the color to green on green. Dealer called Chevrolet and informed OO that the car was so far "down the line", they didn't know what color it was gonna be until it came in on the transporter. Kind of a neat aspect with paperwork to back it up.
Thanks again
Mitchell

A lot of great looking stances here. My 20yr son has a 67 camaro that is all stock and beside new metal interior and drive train are original. Nothing too special 327/210 hp. He loves the 70s look with the big tires in the back and the crazy paint. O yeah shackle kits also. He is going with 15x6 cragers in the front and 15x8 in the rear. The tires he is thinking of getting are the BFGoodrich radial TAs. 205 60r15 for the front and 255 or 265 60r 15s for the rear. Any feedback on the tire shells and stance would be great. You should talk to my brother (goes by dykstra here) he posted pics of his 68 Camaro a few posts up from here. His car started out the same way as your son's - he has had various drivetrain/wheel/tire combos over the years (he has owned since 1988-ish) and would be a good source of what works.
