Per many indentification books, no 3963512 were HD truck* engines, impossible due the design of block.

Only the high HP versions were 4 bolt, the 425 and 450 hp version per Chevy by the Numbers.

Probably not the reason for your no-fit but years ago I painted up my 64 Impala. The cowl screen panel was pitted so they sandblasted it to remove all the surface rust and paint. Then painted it...

The harder the stamp is struck, the deeper the impression and the larger it will look. If not struck perfectly at 90° to the block, one end could appear larger than they other end.

The owner who got the ELC in orignal paint says it came with cowl hood and not stripes. No indication it ever had stripes. He has POP to confrin SS396.

Only explanation is the stripe delete. ...

Yes, used only on 1970-72 A-Body cars

I wonder if it could be that the car is a Cowl hood SS396 without stripes? Owner says no stripe were on it.

Why would there be a special paint code for black on this Elky. All the data shows Black was a stock color code 19?

Look at this body tag, its coded 926-96459 which I find is a 1970 Buick black...

1001PA is the pricing code used, don't know how much PA was but the cost was variable depending on qty of cars ordered and other factors determine at the time of order.
