It was Ed Cater. No "r". He and his friend Dave Strong walked into the dealership and ordered two near identical 'Cudas that day - Dave's car had no black vinyl top and had a black deluxe interior, it met its demise at the hands of a drunken young man around 1976. This car here resided 15 minutes from where I grew up as a child in Newfoundland. I have a long association with the car. True story: I was about 20 years old when the owner and I finally met in person at the car after a few long distance phone calls (that started in my teens after having first laid eyes on the car at 12 years old) because he left Newfoundland and let the car rot in his family's backyard and would never, ever sell it. We are standing there looking at the rotting mess and I say "you know those fender tags are gonna fall off the next time this car is moved" because they had rotted right around the screws. He proceeds to pull one off easily and twist the other one off by hand and gives them to me. "I'm just gonna get another body and put this drivetrain in it anyway, you can have em"
I did give him some money for the console, the original dual point Mopar distributor, and the pistol grip shifter which had all been replaced with Day 2 items. He also didnt care about those pieces but the car itself was going nowhere, "over his dead body" he said. Well, that's what finally happened. But I got snookered out of the car. It's my biggest "one that got away" story. But boy was it a freaking mess.

The fender tags I gave to Alan for free when he tracked me down, the other parts I think I sold to him for $500. Alan was gracious enough to let me row through the gears in it upon its completion in 2007.

Oh and Ed Cater still lives in the town where he ordered the car new, Grand Falls, which is hours from where the car ended up. Somehow when my sister moved to that same town 20 years ago to work in a hospital as a Social Worker, and bought a house, she got acquainted with her next door neighbor and his family: Ed Cater. I nearly fell out of my chair.

He still has the trade in slip in his possession when he went for a full size C-body in '72 because they were planning a family.

This Dark Green 69 Hemi Daytona was sold new at Dodge City Inc. in Phoenix AZ to Pat Harper. This is a 4 speed car with 4.10 gears and still has its original drivetrain. Pat was a school teacher in Phoenix and she had a white vinyl top installed on the car. Early in its life the car was in a minor accident and the nose cone was damaged so a Charger frontend was installed on the car. It was eventually restored and appeared in the June '94 issue of Car Craft when Bill Jurevich owned it. At that time it had a white tail stripe and Kelsey Hayes recall wheels. It was also featured in the January '11 issue of Mopar Collectors Guide and by that time had the dealer installed white vinyl top back on it. Since then it has been repainted and the original black stripe was reinstalled. It appeared at MCACN in '15. It was part of Tom Abrams collection and sold for $1.2M.

This Hemi Orange 70 Hemi Challenger R/T was sold new at Davenport Dodge in Davenport IA. This is a 4 speed car with 4.10 gears and still has its original drivetrain. This is an unrestored car with only 6.3K miles. The original owner drove it sparingly and one time when he had it out in the early 70's it was hit in the drivers side front fender while parked. He bought a new fender and all new trim to fix the damage, but was unhappy when the paint on the new fender didn't match the rest of the car. He parked the car and let it sit until '21 when it was purchased by Gordon Mollis. He had the fender repainted to match the rest of the car and then installed the stripe and trim that the original owner had purchased back in the '70's. This car was featured in the November '21 issue of Mopar Collectors Guide and was in the VIP For Sale Corral at MCACN in '21. This car was bid to $325K.

----Later this BO29 ended up with Dale Smith in Bloomington Ill. He brought it back to racing specs for nostalgia stuff. Dale (RIP) and I were close friends and he wanted to go to the same nostalgia stuff I was doing with Red Alert. Around 93 or 94ish we both went to the Field of Dreams at the Quaker City get together and Dale got Ronnie to show up. Ronnie brought his Pro-Mod Comet and the big rig. He was supposed to run Bill Porterfield in the No.1 ZL1 with the BO29 in some match races, but Bill broke something during testing. The promoter came to me and asked if I'd step in among a few others. Of course, I said yes. I didn't care how bad he beat me as I could say "I raced Ronnie Sox". I said, you guys got to give me something as Dales car was a second and a half faster than RA and we settled on 3/4's of a second. I wasn't exactly happy, but what the hell! We did our burnouts and there were a lot of cameras out there for the race. I still believe that Ronnie just wasn't used to someone leaving 3/4 of a second before him. I, of course, didn't see him leave and I hooked up as well as I ever did. I saw him coming but it seemed like he was too far back. I hadn't seen him stand the car practicly on the bumper. Ronnie had holed the oil pan on the way down but didn't know it and was chasing me down. I just squeaked by him and felt pretty damn good going back to the pits. We were pitted next to each other, and I went over and (stupidly) gave him a Red Alert hat. Moments later I saw him throw it in a trash can. Ronnie did not like to be beat, even in a little nothing race for him. My modest racing claim to fame.....Bill S

I was going by the sign with the car which I see is obviously wrong. So is this technically a 32 Chevrolet Confederate Deluxe Sport Cabriolet Convertible? From what I could find all 32 Chevrolets were Confederates. The Deluxe had chromed hood ports, cowl lamps and dual side mount spares. The Sport meant it had a rumble seat. Is Cabriolet just another name for Convertible? I found the difference between a Roadster and a Convertible was what was mentioned above.

I grew up 3 miles from Merollis Chevrolet. As a kid, I would hang out at a park where all the older guys would park their cars, drink beer and smoke.
There were always 2 black with white striped chevelles, all souped up with Cragers and big back tires. They were my favorite amongst the variety of muscle cars, although I did like a few of the mopars, most notably a 440 wedge Fury.
Anyway, I told myself one day I’ll have a black with white striped Chevelle. Came close a few times but it remains on the bucket list as an unchecked item.

This car actually sold at the show and the new owner is expecting delivery today. This R4 Red 69 Hemi Charger 500 was the first Hemi Charger 500 built in '69 and is known as car 610. The first six Hemi Charger 500's built were Press Release cars. They were all Red with three having 4 speeds and three having TorqueFlites. Their VON #'s were 925000 - 925005. This is an unrestored car that still has its original drivetrain. It was featured in the May '17 issue of Muscle Car Review and the August '21 issue of Mopar Collector's Guide. According to the story in MCG some press guys had this car checked out from Dodge and took it street racing one night. They ended up damaging one of the rear quarter panels and took it to a local Dodge dealer in the middle of the night for repairs. They returned it the next day without the repairs being noticed. This car was eventually sold through Turnpike Motor Sales in East Greenbush NY to M. Russo. R. Myers had this car at the show.

This car was out in California and had its engine and transmission stolen. Dodge asked Cotton Owens to retrieve it and store it at his shop in South Carolina until they figured out what they were going to do with it. They eventually asked him to bring it up to Detroit and they used it in wind tunnel testing in the development of the Daytonas. Dodge then offered the car to Cotton Owens less a front clip. He purchased it and they latter shipped him a new painted front clip with some other body panels to repair his stock cars. This car was restored a number of years ago by Lee Hodge and he had it at the show this year.

This F6 Spring Green 69 Hemi Daytona is 1 of 2 in this color and was sold new at Vern Holmes Inc. in Long Beath CA. This is a TorqueFlite car with 4.10 gears and still has its original drivetrain. It also only has 21K miles and is mostly original other than a repaint. This car was painted Petty Blue with red stripes in the '70's and was featured in Hot Rod magazine. My dad has the magazine and I remember looking at it as a kid. When Tom Lembeck purchased this car he had it painted, but they were able to remove the paint in the engine compartment and some of the other more hidden areas so that is still original paint today.
